Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Warehouse Fleet Mechanic to join our dynamic team. In this vital role, you will be responsible the inspection, maintenance, repair, and upkeep of forklifts, automated packaging equipment, material handling systems (such as conveyors, pallet jacks), and other warehouse machinery to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. This role supports a high-volume warehouse/distribution center by minimizing downtime, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and complying with safety regulations. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes physically demanding warehouse setting to support uninterrupted warehouse productivity. Position Summary The Warehouse Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and upkeep of forklifts, automated packaging equipment, material handling systems (such as conveyors, pallet jacks), and other warehouse machinery to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. This role supports high-volume warehouse/distribution center environments by minimizing downtime, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and complying with safety regulations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the operational readiness of the warehouse fleet. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor and Fleet Manager, the mechanic diagnoses mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems; performs repairs and preventive maintenance; and ensures all equipment meets OSHA and company safety standards. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes physically demanding warehouse setting to support uninterrupted warehouse productivity. Essential Functions The following functions are essential to the performance of this role. Perform routine preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on forklifts (electric, LP/gas, diesel), pallet jacks, automated packaging lines, conveyors, and other material handling equipment (MHE) to identify and address potential issues before they cause breakdowns. Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system problems using diagnostic tools, schematics, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications. Repair or replace components such as engines/motors, transmissions, drive axles, differentials, brakes, steering systems, masts, forks, batteries/chargers, hydraulic pumps/cylinders, sensors, and automation controls. Conduct safety inspections and testing of equipment (e.g., brakes, lights, horns, lifting mechanisms) to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company policies. Review, maintain and update accurate records of maintenance, repairs, parts usage, and work orders in the maintenance spreadsheet. Rebuild major components as needed (e.g., transmissions, hydraulic systems) and test equipment performance using tools like voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges, and other diagnostic instruments. Assist with battery maintenance, charging systems, and charger repairs in accordance with safety protocols. Collaborate with operations teams to prioritize repairs, respond to emergency breakdowns, and minimize equipment downtime. Inspect and repair buildings and fixtures as needed Order parts, manage inventory of common spares, and coordinate with vendors or outside service providers when necessary. Perform housekeeping duties in the maintenance area, keeping tools, workspace, and equipment clean and organized. Work flexible shifts, weekends, or on-call as needed/required to support 24/7 warehouse operations. All other duties and department tasks as assigned or needed. Qualifications and Requirements Technical/vocational certificate in mechanics, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred. Experience in forklift maintenance and repair; experience with automated warehouse systems, packaging equipment, or conveyors is highly desirable. Equivalent experience in automotive, diesel truck, or heavy equipment repair may substitute. Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems; ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and welding/fabrication as needed. Basic computer skills for google sheets, email, and data entry. Valid driver's license and ability to pass background check, onboarding drug screening as well as randomized drug screenings. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in a team. Strong safety focus and commitment to regulatory compliance. Must have manual dexterity to use hand tools, power tools, and handle small parts/components. Ability to work at heights (e.g., on elevated platforms or man lifts) and in confined spaces.
Specific vision abilities required:
close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus (with or without corrective lenses). Frequent exposure to loud noises, vibrations, fumes/odors from equipment, and varying temperatures. Work Environment Primarily indoor warehouse or distribution center environment with controlled or ambient temperatures; may include cold storage areas (down to -20°F) or hot/humid zones depending on facility. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, high noise levels, dust, dirt, oil/grease, chemicals, and occasional outdoor elements. Fast-paced setting with frequent interruptions for urgent repairs; may require working around active warehouse traffic, conveyors, and automated systems. Personal protective equipment (PPE) required, including safety glasses, steel-toed boots, gloves, hearing protection, and high-visibility vest. Potential for shift work, overtime, weekends, holidays, or on-call duties to support continuous operations.
