Water and Wastewater Operator

The City of Madison, SD is seeking a dependable and motivated full-time Water & Wastewater Operator to join our Utilities team. This position plays a vital role in protecting public health and ensuring our community has safe, reliable drinking water and effective wastewater treatment services every day. This role involves a mix of hands-on and technical work, including operating and maintaining water and wastewater treatment facilities, collecting and analyzing samples, monitoring system performance, and completing required reporting. The operator also assists with inspecting and maintaining wells, pumps, and system infrastructure, as well as performing routine maintenance and repairs on plant equipment and facilities. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a variety of environments, including treatment plants, confined spaces, and changing weather conditions. This position requires the use of tools, equipment, and technology, along with the ability to perform physically demanding tasks. Operators participate in a rotating on-call schedule and may respond to after-hours emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
