Position Type:

Full-Time Position Summary The Walnutport Authority seeks a qualified Water Operator to manage, operate, and maintain the public water supply and treatment infrastructure. The system relies on six groundwater wells located within the borough and Lehigh Township. The successful candidate ensures the continuous delivery of safe drinking water to residents and businesses while remaining compliant with all Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities System Operation :

Monitor and control equipment, water levels in storage tanks, and flow rates across six drilled production wells.

Water Quality Testing :

Collect daily water samples and perform chemical tests to measure purity, clarity, pH levels, and disinfectant residuals.

Chemical Application :

Safe handling, dosing, and operation of chemical feed apparatus, chlorinators, and disinfection systems.

Routine Maintenance :

Perform preventative care, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on pumps, motors, valves, recording meters, and filters.

Regulatory Compliance :

Complete and maintain accurate daily logs, operational charts, and monitoring data to satisfy PA DEP reporting requirements.

Emergency Response :

Respond to after-hours system alarms, power outages, main breaks, or equipment failures to protect public health.

Customer Service :

Investigate and log resident inquiries regarding water quality, pressure issues, or local distribution disruptions.

Required Qualifications & Experience Education :

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience :

2+ years of directly relevant experience in water treatment plant operations preferred.

Certifications :

Valid Pennsylvania Water System Operator Certification issued by the State Board. Applicants without this certification are still encouraged to apply - candidates will be considered with the requirement that they obtain the certifications in a certain amount of time after employment.

Driver's License :

Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License with a clean driving record. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong technical knowledge of groundwater well systems, disinfection processes, and PA DEP Safe Drinking Water regulations. Proficiency in reading digital/analog charts, meters, and basic facility blueprints or distribution maps. Ability to handle physical labor, work under varying weather conditions outdoors, and lift up to 50 pounds. Basic computer skills for logging compliance metrics and interacting with SCADA infrastructure.

Pay:

$25.00 - $30.00 per hour
