Job Description

About the Position The City of Saint Paul Regional Water Services is hiring a Water Treatment Operator to perform responsible work operating a large-scale public drinking water facility. Here's what you can expect to do: Control the flow of water into and throughout the treatment processes, from the incoming conduits through rapid mix, lime softening and flocculation, settling, re-carbonation, filtration and disinfection. Monitor and adjust the appropriate application of treatment chemicals during the process. Track and adjust flow rates as needed. Perform appropriate chemical analyses and monitor the chlorine residual, turbidity, alkalinity, and temperature levels. Monitor performance of plant machinery and make minor maintenance and emergency repairs. Evaluate water treatment control parameters to track plant operations and make necessary adjustments. Position Requirements Must obtain a Class D Water Operators Certificate from the Minnesota Department of Health within eighteen (18) months of appointment. AND must meet ONE of the following requirements: Two years of experience as a Maintenance Worker I or equivalent experience assisting in the operation, maintenance, and repair of buildings and equipment, pertaining to water treatment, water pumping, and lime recovery operations. OR Completion of a post-secondary water or wastewater treatment program as specified by the department. Eligible Lists:
Eligible lists are typically created from a pass/fail assessment. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months. Hiring Managers may interview/hire anyone from the list.
Final Selection Process:
You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
