Job Description
The City of Winona has two open positions. Water Maintenance Worker or Operator; and Wastewater Maintenance Worker or Operator. Interested applicants may complete one application form for all positions. Eligibility for consideration will be based on the minimum qualifications in the descriptions below. A commercial driver's license and specialized licensure is a requirement of all positions. The City will provide resources to help the selected candidate obtain licensure. Below is a summary of the entry level worker and experienced operator job classifications. Click the links with the text to view the full job description for each position. Entry level workers can progress to an experienced operator position after training and demonstration of competency. Anticipated start date for both positions will be July 2026.
Entry Level Water Maintenance Worker and Wastewater Maintenance Worker Hourly Wage Range:
$25.11 to $33.48 This entry level position focuses on plant maintenance and groundskeeping of the water or wastewater facilities. Duties include inspecting and maintaining equipment, painting, general repairs, groundskeeping, cleaning, and assisting operators with specialized maintenance.Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent One year of maintenance experience. Class B Commercial Driver's License (have or be willing to obtain within 6 months of employment.) Class D Water or Wastewater Operator License (have or be willing to obtain within 12 months of employment.) Type 4 Operator license for land application of biosolids (wastewater only within 16 months of employment.)Experienced Water Operator or Wastewater Operator Hourly Wage Range:
$34.41 to $45.87 This experienced position focuses on plant operations and the ability to resolve issues independently. Duties include operating and maintaining water treatment and distribution system including pumps, wells, chemical feed system, meters, gauges, and SCADA system; collect, test, and record data from water samples to conform to state rules and regulations; and general maintenance. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree or equivalent training Three years (water) or four years (wastewater) of municipal water or wastewater treatment or related experience. Class B Commercial Driver's License Class C Water or Wastewater license Type 4 Operator license for land application of biosolids (wastewater only) Special Low Pressure Boiler's license (wastewater only within 12 months of employment) Benefits Benefits begin on date of hire and include: 40 hours paid vacation with progressive accrual 3.69 hours of sick time per pay period to 96 hours per year with a carryover maximum of 960 hours. 12 paid holidays per year Medical, dental, life and disability insurance, and additional supplemental benefits begin on date of hire Minnesota Pension Plan and additional retirement savings plans offered Additional benefit information can be found in the Employee Benefits tab on the left side of this page How To Apply Click the link below to be redirected to the City of Winona website to learn more an apply online.
