Immediately Job Description Maintenance/Custodian Technician Job Description Wilbur D. Mills Education Service Cooperative Position Summary The Maintenance/Custodian Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, functional, and professional environment throughout all facilities operated by the Wilbur D. Mills Education Service Cooperative. This position performs a variety of custodial, maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping duties to support daily operations and ensure facilities remain in excellent working condition for staff, students, visitors, and partner districts. The Maintenance/Custodian Technician works independently and collaboratively to complete preventative maintenance tasks, custodial responsibilities, basic repairs, event setup, and facility support services while promoting safety, professionalism, and customer service. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Custodial Responsibilities Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of offices, classrooms, meeting rooms, restrooms, hallways, kitchens, storage areas, and common spaces. Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and polish floors and surfaces. Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste appropriately. Clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish paper products and supplies. Monitor and maintain inventory of custodial supplies and reorder as needed. Ensure buildings are properly secured at opening and closing times. Assist with room setup and breakdown for meetings, trainings, and special events. Maintenance Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to buildings, grounds, furniture, and equipment. Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and identify repair needs. Replace light bulbs, ceiling tiles, filters, and other basic facility components. Assist with HVAC monitoring and report system issues as needed. Perform minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting repairs within skill level and training. Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors when directed. Maintain grounds, sidewalks, entrances, and parking areas to ensure safe conditions. Assist with seasonal maintenance including weather preparation and emergency response. Safety and Compliance Follow all Cooperative, state, and federal safety procedures and regulations. Properly handle cleaning chemicals and maintenance equipment according to safety standards. Report unsafe conditions, accidents, or facility concerns promptly. Maintain compliance with OSHA standards and applicable workplace safety requirements. Support emergency preparedness and building security procedures. Additional Responsibilities Respond to maintenance and custodial requests in a timely and professional manner. Operate custodial and maintenance equipment safely and effectively. Assist with deliveries, moving furniture, and facility organization. Maintain positive working relationships with staff, vendors, and visitors. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designated supervisor. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in custodial services, facility maintenance, or related field preferred. Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, building maintenance, and repair procedures. Ability to safely operate maintenance tools and custodial equipment. Valid Arkansas driver's license. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Preferred Qualifications Experience in educational or public service facilities. Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or carpentry systems. Experience with preventative maintenance programs. Certification or training related to maintenance, custodial services, or facility operations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to changing needs. Working knowledge of cleaning products, maintenance procedures, and safety practices. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and vendors. Dependability, professionalism, and strong work ethic. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a school service environment. Ability to read and follow instructions, manuals, and safety guidelines. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and perform physical labor throughout the workday. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to operate maintenance and custodial equipment safely. Work Environment The work environment includes office buildings, training facilities, classrooms, meeting spaces, and outdoor areas. The position may occasionally require evening or weekend work for special events, emergencies, or facility needs. Terms of Employment 240 Day Contract Salary and benefits established by the Wilbur D.
