Job Description
Position Overview The Weekend Raiser Instructor is a full-time, high-energy role focused on coaching and supporting NEADS volunteer Puppy Raisers as they work with our Service Dogs in Training. This position leads obedience training sessions, organizes socialization field trips, addresses behavioral or socialization concerns, and ensures consistent communication between volunteers and NEADS staff. The role also includes on-campus support in the Nursery, Early Learning Center, and Canine Center as needed. Primary Responsibilities
- Coach and develop volunteer Weekend Puppy Raisers as they work with our Service Dogs in Training using NEADS training curriculum through individual and group sessions.
- Lead obedience and socialization classes, field trips, and problem-solving sessions with volunteers and Service Dogs in Training (SDiTs).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for up to 40 Weekend Puppy Raisers, ensuring timely and accurate communication with volunteers and staff.
- Coordinate effectively with internal and external contacts, including those within the Department of Corrections.
- Maintain organized records, including Raiser communication sheets and field trip level sheets.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all dogs under supervision.
- Assist with new volunteer onboarding, including virtual home visits, first-time pick-ups, and field trips.
- Participate in bi-monthly Puppy Raiser Council meetings and represent the Weekend Raiser program as needed.
- Support campus operations in the Nursery, Early Learning Center, and Canine Center as assigned. Position Requirements
- Basic knowledge of dog behavior, handling, and socialization.
- Ability to develop and maintain NEADS-approved canine handling skills and provide hands-on instruction to volunteers.
- Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and troubleshoot issues in real time.
- Compassionate, confident, and professional when interacting with staff, volunteers, clients, and visitors.
- Team-oriented with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and general technology tools.
- Valid driver's license with ability to drive fleet vehicles (sedans, SUVs, and cargo vans) locally and regionally.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in indoor/outdoor environments year-round.
- Willingness to work weekends and travel regionally.
- Must pass a CORI background check.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years or older
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Hands-on experience working in animal care preferred
- Experience working with volunteers is a plus
Schedule:
Standard work schedule isWednesday - Sunday, 8am-4:30pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break ; hours may vary.Compensation:
