Welder Job Description This role focuses on MIG welding mild and stainless steel to produce custom and production exhaust systems for power generation, oil and gas, marine, locomotive, construction, and off-road applications. You will interpret blueprints and weld symbols, perform tack welding and assembly, and occasionally support general fabrication tasks across the shop. This position offers the opportunity to develop a broad range of metal fabrication skills in a modern, well-organized facility. Responsibilities Perform MIG welding on mild steel and stainless steel to manufacture exhaust systems for a variety of industrial and mobile applications. Carry out both custom and production-style MIG welding, ensuring consistent quality and adherence to specifications. Complete tack welding and assemble exhaust components into finished products. Read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols, and build products accurately based on the prints. Use measuring tools, such as tape measures, to verify dimensions and ensure products meet required tolerances. Assist with general metal fabrication tasks, including operating equipment such as brake presses, shears, and rollers as needed. Use plasma cutting equipment and other shop tools safely and effectively when required for fabrication. Follow written and verbal instructions to complete welding and fabrication assignments efficiently. Participate in a weld test by working from a blueprint to build a product that demonstrates welding and blueprint-reading skills. Maintain a clean, organized work area and support overall shop organization and workflow. Perform a variety of tasks throughout the shop to support production needs and expand your skills over time. Essential Skills Hands-on welding experience gained on the job, at school, or through practical work such as farm or shop welding. Proficiency in MIG welding on mild steel and stainless steel. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and build products based on detailed prints. Ability to read and understand weld symbols and apply them correctly during fabrication. Experience using wire feed welding equipment for MIG processes. Competence in measuring and layout using tools such as tape measures. Fundamental knowledge of metal fabrication processes, including cutting, forming, and assembly. Ability to perform a weld test by building a product from a blueprint to demonstrate welding and fabrication skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with TIG welding is beneficial and supports versatility in the shop. Background in metal fabrication, including fitting, cutting, and assembling components, is an advantage. Familiarity with operating fabrication equipment such as brake presses, shears, rollers, and plasma cutters. Ability to handle a variety of tasks and adapt to changing priorities in a fabrication environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds and finished products. Work Environment Work takes place in a new, well-laid-out, and organized fabrication facility designed for efficient production and safe operations. The shop uses modern metal fabrication equipment, including MIG welding machines, wire feed systems, plasma cutters, brake presses, shears, rollers, and standard measuring tools. You will work around mild and stainless steel materials, exhaust components, and related fabrication setups in a clean, structured environment that supports both custom and production work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Northfield, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $33.00/hr.
