Job Description

Position Summary:
The Welder/Fabricator is responsible for performing welding, fabrication, and mechanical maintenance tasks to support plant operations and ensure equipment functionality. This position is critical to maintaining a safe, sanitary, and efficient meat processing environment. The individual will work closely with the maintenance team and the production team to ensure timely and effective repairs and installations.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform TIG, MIG, and Stick welding on stainless steel and mild steel components, with an emphasis on sanitary welding for food-grade applications.
  • Fabricate custom parts, structures, and equipment components using cutting, grinding, shearing, and bending tools.
  • Conduct routine and emergency maintenance and repair of plant equipment, including conveyors, processing machinery, and structural components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine project specifications.
  • Modify existing equipment and piping systems to improve functionality or comply with regulatory and sanitation standards.
  • Ensure all welds meet plant and USDA hygiene standards.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, adhering to plant safety procedures and lockout/tagout protocols.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to schedule and prioritize repairs with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including materials used, time spent, and parts ordered.
  • Assist with installation of new machinery and processing lines.
  • Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and other material handling equipment as required.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and report issues.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in welding or metal fabrication preferred.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of welding/fabrication experience, preferably in a food processing or industrial environment.
  • Proficient in TIG, MIG, and Stick welding; sanitary welding experience strongly preferred.
  • Welding certification(s) (AWS or equivalent) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of metalworking tools, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with food industry sanitation and safety standards (USDA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Able to work independently and within a team.
  • Good troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be able to lift 50+ pounds, stand for long periods, and work in a refrigerated or humid environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods of time. The employee frequently is required to use hands to feel objects, tools, controls and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to cold and hot temperatures, raw and cooked meat products, and wet and slippery conditions. The employee routinely works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to frequently very loud.
