Job Description
Position Details & Responsibilities Primary Duties:
Operate bulldozers, excavators, and transport trucks (lowboys) to construct firelines, remove hazardous vegetation, and perform forest resiliency activities.Operations and Maintenance:
Responsible for the operations and maintenance of specialized equipment (engines, dozers, tenders, skidgines, etc.) used in wildland fire situations. Must be able to perform on the spot maintenance on heavy equipment necessary to keep equipment operational. The operator is also responsible for fuel and safety inspections of the assigned equipment and that the equipment has required safety items (fire shelter, fire extinguisher, etc.).Emergency Response:
Respond to wildland fire incidents as part of initial attack or on-going support roles, often working up to 18 hours per day for up to 21 days straight.Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
Valid CDL with two years (preferred) of experience in operating heavy equipment (dozers/excavators, etc.) with experience in land clearing/forestry being a plus. Operators must be capable and comfortable with operating machinery in hazardous conditions.License:
A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for transporting heavy machinery to and from fires. (A CDL is not required if you are applying to only operate heavy equipment)Fire Safety Training:
Operators must complete the Annual Fireline Safety Refresher Training (RT-130).Physical Fitness:
Must be able to work in hot, dirty and smoky conditions for up to 16-hour daily shifts and for up to 21 days straight. Operators/Drivers must provide their own tent and necessary items for overnight fire assignments. Operators must also wear the required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as hard hats, fire-resistant clothing, boots, and gloves.Availability:
Must be available for on-call dispatch during fire season, including weekends and holidays. Must be able to report to the company dispatch center within 1 hour of dispatch call, as this is an emergency services contract. During high fire activity, employees often work 16 hour days, for up to 21 days straight (not including travel time), with 1-2 days off in between rotations.THIS IS MANDATORY.
