Winery Sous Chef Alexana Winery Newberg, OR Job Details Full-time $22 - $24 an hour 14 days ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Vision insurance 401(k) matching Qualifications Teamwork Guest relations Wine knowledge Menu planning Cleaning Full Job Description Position Summary The position of Sous Chef is a key operational role responsible for supporting the daily execution of Alexana Estate's culinary offerings, including our wine pairing menus, multi-course lunch experiences, private events, and seasonal hospitality activations. This role will work closely alongside our Estate Chef to ensure a consistently elevated guest experience reflective of the quality and beauty of Alexana Estate.

Schedule:
This position will require flexibility to fulfill the needs of our annual cycle of operations, particularly during peak hospitality and event seasons. The normally scheduled on-site workdays will be Saturday through Wednesday , with some evenings required based on private events and winery programming.
Compensation:
$22 hourly rate, paid in biweekly installments. You wil also be eligible to earn a portion of service charges collected for qualifying events (equating to $2+ per hour)

Key Responsibilities:
1.
Culinary Program Execution & Kitchen Operations:
Execute all daily culinary programming under the direction of the Estate Chef. Prepare and plate food for curated wine pairing menus, seated tasting experiences, and multi-course lunches. Assist with prep lists, production timelines, mise en place, and kitchen readiness each day. Ensure consistency, quality, and presentation standards across all guest offerings. Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and food safety compliance in all kitchen and storage areas. Assist with receiving, inventory management, stock rotation, and ordering needs. Support food cost controls through efficient prep, portioning, and waste reduction. Help maintain SOPs for kitchen systems, prep procedures, and service execution. 2.
Hospitality Experiences:
Support execution of Alexana Estate's signature culinary experiences. Prepare food for tasting room pairings and elevated lunch programs. Assist in refining menus seasonally based on product availability and guest feedback. Collaborate with hospitality staff to ensure seamless timing between culinary and wine service. Maintain a warm, professional, guest-facing presence when interacting with visitors. 3.
Private Events & Winery Activations:
Support execution of private lunches, dinners, member events, release weekends, and winery celebrations. Assist with setup, service, and breakdown for on-site culinary activations. Prepare food for off-site events or pop-ups as needed. Help ensure events are executed at a high level while maintaining efficiency and professionalism. 4.
Teamwork & Leadership Support:
Work closely with the Estate Chef as the second-in-command of the kitchen operation. Help train hospitality team members on food handling and service standards when needed.
