  • Full-time Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Yard Manager to lead and oversee all operations within our yard.
The Yard Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient operation and organization of the company yard. This role primarily involves operating material handling equipment, receiving and managing incoming materials, maintaining accurate inventory records, and supporting shop operations by ensuring timely movement of materials. The Yard Manager works outdoors year-round and plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and organized work environment. Key Responsibilities Material Handling & Equipment Operation Operate forklifts as the primary piece of equipment, including large-capacity forklifts for complex and critical lifts. Safely operate additional equipment as needed, including boom lifts, wheel loaders, skid steers, and scissor lifts. Perform complex lifts involving heavy, oversized, or asymmetrical steel components with a high degree of precision and safety awareness. Load and unload materials from delivery trucks and internal transport vehicles. Receiving & Inspection Receive deliveries of steel, paint, and other materials. Inspect incoming materials to verify they match purchase orders and meet quality standards. Complete and process receiving documentation in accordance with company procedures. Inventory & Documentation Maintain accurate inventory records for all yard materials. Add and remove materials from stock following company procedures. Complete and submit all required documentation related to inventory transactions. Monitor stock levels of shop materials. Yard Organization & Material Flow Organize and store materials in a logical, efficient manner to ensure easy access and safe handling. Coordinate and move materials in and out of the shop as requested by shop personnel. Stage materials for upcoming jobs to support production efficiency. Yard Maintenance Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard environment. Remove debris, organize scrap metal, and ensure proper storage of equipment. Perform general upkeep tasks to maintain operational efficiency. Perform snow removal operations during winter months using a wheel loader or other equipment. Technology & Reporting Utilize a company-issued tablet to access job information, inventory records, and internal systems. Update and maintain inventory data using Google Sheets and other digital tracking tools. Accurately enter receiving, stock movement, and inventory adjustment data in real time. Communicate effectively with office and shop personnel using digital platforms as required. Work Environment This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions throughout the year. Exposure to heavy equipment, moving machinery, and industrial materials is expected. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs (e.g., paint buckets, dunnage). Ability to climb into and out of heavy equipment. Ability to climb onto material stacks for loading, unloading, and securing shipments. Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical labor for extended periods. Qualifications Prior experience operating forklifts and heavy equipment required. Experience handling steel or construction materials strongly preferred. Basic proficiency with tablets and digital tools required. Ability to read and interpret purchase orders and inventory documents. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and respond to changing priorities. Safety Expectations Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Perform equipment inspections and report maintenance needs. Maintain situational awareness during all lifting and yard operations.
