Job Description

Job Title:
1st Shift CNC Lathe Machinist | 1st shift | $22-$26/hr | Orrville Job Description This role involves setting up, programming, editing, and operating CNC lathes and mills in a job shop environment on 1st shift. You will work with a variety of metals, interpret complex blueprints, and perform precise machining and quality checks using advanced tools and controls such as G & M codes, Fanuc, and MasterCam. The position requires a well-rounded machinist who can manage full machine set-ups, changeovers, tooling, and tear-downs while maintaining high quality standards over extended shifts. Responsibilities Set up, program, edit, and operate CNC lathes and mills to produce parts in a job shop environment. Use G & M codes and controls such as Fanuc and MasterCam to complete machining jobs accurately and efficiently. Read and interpret blueprints daily to set up jobs and verify dimensions and tolerances on finished parts. Machine a variety of metals, including steel, aluminum, carbon, zinc, and other alloys, according to job specifications. Perform quality checks on machined parts using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers. Conduct complete machine set-ups, changeovers, tooling adjustments, edits, and tear-downs as required. Operate additional shop tools and equipment, including mills, manual mills, boring mills, manual lathes, and Bridgeport-style machines, to complete jobs. Adjust speeds and feeds to optimize machining performance and surface finish while protecting tooling and equipment. Maintain a safe and organized work area and follow all shop procedures and standards. Work 10-hour shifts Monday through Friday and 5-6 hours on most Saturdays, with potential rotation for on-call Sundays. Be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed to meet production demands. Essential Skills At least 5+ years of CNC machining experience in a job shop environment. Strong experience operating CNC lathes with some experience on mills. Proficiency in machine set-ups, changeovers, tooling, edits, and tear-downs. Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately. Proficiency with precision measuring tools, including micrometers and calipers, for verifying tolerances and dimensions. Experience using G & M codes for CNC programming and operation. Experience working with Fanuc controls. Ability to perform programming and editing on CNC machines. Comfort working extended 10-hour shifts Monday through Friday and 5-6 hours most Saturdays. Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a foundry environment. Ability to provide personal tools for machining work, with supplemental tools available on site. Experience operating mills, manual mills, boring mills, manual lathes, and Bridgeport-style mills. Familiarity with MasterCam or similar CAM software. Understanding of appropriate speeds and feeds for various materials and tooling. Ability to adapt to a high-volume workload and long hours while maintaining quality and safety. Why Work Here? Appropriate industrial work attire suitable for a foundry environment is expected to ensure safety and comfort. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orrville, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
