Job Title:
CNC Machinist - 1st Shift (Job Shop) | $20-$25/hr | Ashland, OH Job Description This role offers an experienced CNC Machinist the opportunity to set up and operate CNC mills and lathes in a clean, climate-controlled job shop environment. You will work on a wide variety of precision parts, perform complete set ups and tear downs, select tooling, and hold tight tolerances while collaborating with a small, skilled team on a consistent first-shift schedule. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC machines (mills and lathes) in a job shop environment to produce precision parts. Perform complete machine set ups and tear downs, including changeovers between different jobs. Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and job orders to determine machining requirements. Make machine edits and adjust offsets as needed to maintain part quality and dimensional accuracy. Perform tool changes and select appropriate tooling for each job based on material and tolerance requirements. Use precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other equipment, to verify part dimensions to tight tolerances of +/- 0.005. Monitor machine operations, identify issues, and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and productivity standards. Troubleshoot machining and equipment problems and perform minor repairs or adjustments to keep machines running efficiently. Apply knowledge of GD&T and blueprint reading to ensure parts meet specification and quality requirements. Document work performed, including job setups, adjustments, and inspection results, in accordance with shop procedures. Collaborate with team members to resolve production issues and improve machining processes. Work with a mix of manual and CNC equipment, including vertical and horizontal mills and turning centers, as needed. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and follow all safety procedures in the machine shop. Essential Skills At least 5+ years of experience operating and setting up CNC machines (mills and/or lathes) in a job shop environment. Proven experience with CNC machine set ups and tear downs, including changeovers between different parts and jobs. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings. Hands-on experience with offsets, machine edits, and tool changes on CNC equipment. Ability to choose appropriate tooling for various materials and part requirements. Proficiency in using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other gauges to hold tight tolerances of +/- 0.005. Experience working with materials such as steel, aluminum, stainless steel, copper, bronze, cast iron, and plastics. Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and make minor repairs or adjustments to CNC equipment. Comfort working with CNC mills and lathes in a job shop setting with a variety of parts and one-off or short-run work. Solid understanding of machine shop practices and safe operation of CNC equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with CNC milling and turning, including vertical and horizontal mills. Familiarity with manual machining in addition to CNC machining. Exposure to programming concepts, including conversational controls, G-code, and M-code. Experience working with a variety of CNC brands and controls, including Fanuc and similar platforms. Knowledge of GD&T and its application in machining and inspection. Experience working in a small job shop environment with mixed new and older equipment. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, precise parts. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively with a small team. Good documentation habits for recording setups, adjustments, and inspection results. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ashland, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
