Temp-to-Hire Know Your Way Around a Manual Lathe? Spherion Mid Ohio is recruiting a Manual Lathe Machinist for a locally owned manufacturing operation in Ashland. This isn't a basic machine-operator position. We're looking for someone with previous hands-on manual lathe experience who understands machining fundamentals, can work from blueprints and measurements, and takes pride in producing accurate parts. You'll use your mechanical and machining skills to produce components for unique custom-built products while working as part of a smaller, team-oriented manufacturing operation. What You'll Do Set up and operate a manual lathe to produce machined components Work from blueprints, drawings, dimensions, and specifications Measure completed work using precision measuring tools Verify dimensions and finished-part accuracy throughout the machining process Select and use appropriate tooling for assigned work Monitor cuts and make adjustments to maintain part quality Inspect finished components for accuracy and workmanship Identify machining or quality issues and make appropriate corrections Perform basic calculations and measurements used in machining Maintain tooling, equipment, and a clean work area Work independently on assigned machining tasks while supporting the broader production team Follow established safety and quality procedures What We're Looking For Previous manual lathe experience is required.
Qualified candidates should also bring:
Strong mechanical aptitude and machining fundamentals Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and dimensions Experience using precision measuring instruments Strong understanding of measurements and tolerances Ability to accurately measure completed work Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills Strong attention to detail and finished-part quality Dependable attendance and consistent work habits Ability to work independently and as part of a smaller manufacturing team Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed Previous vocational, machining, Tool & Die, or apprenticeship training is a plus.
