The Health and Physical Education Teacher supports student success by delivering the division's approved curriculum to promote academic achievement, physical wellness, and positive interpersonal development. The teacher creates and maintains a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment; monitors and assesses student progress; addresses individual learning needs through differentiated instruction; and communicates regularly with students, families, and school administrators.REQUISITE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university Valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Health and Physical Education, or eligibility to obtain one within 30 days Certification/experience preferred in Adaptive PE Proficiency in instructional technology or willingness to complete required training Understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop effective relationships with students, families, and staffKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to manage complex issues involving multiple stakeholders and components. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and school community. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to compose technical documentation and communicate persuasively to implement required actions. Ability to analyze situations, define issues, and draw sound conclusions. Demonstrated judgment and accountability when exercising decision-making authority. Ability to organize and manage multiple activities, collect and analyze data, and maintain accurate records. Ability to collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, agency representatives, and community partners. Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility to function as a positive, contributing member of an educational team. Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with staff and families. Proficiency with the Virginia IEP System preferred.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Complies with all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, School Board policies, and administrative procedures. Performs duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the efficient operation of the school and school division. Develops and implements lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, instructional goals, and student learning needs. Provides differentiated instruction and targeted support to meet the needs of individual students and small groups. Maintains accurate student records, documentation, and reports, and submits all required materials in a timely manner. Collaborates professionally and positively with colleagues, parents/guardians, and community stakeholders to support student success. Supervises and supports instructional assistants, student teachers, volunteers, and other assigned personnel. Establishes and maintains high expectations for student achievement, behavior, and engagement, and supports students in meeting those expectations. Demonstrates knowledge of curriculum content, instructional best practices, and effective teaching strategies. Prepares instructional materials, resources, and learning activities to maximize student engagement and achievement. Utilizes a variety of instructional strategies, technologies, and resources to enhance student learning outcomes. Administers and analyzes assessments to measure student progress and inform instructional decision-making. Collaborates with teachers, counselors, administrators, and other professionals to support students' academic, social, emotional, and physical development. Implements effective classroom and behavior management strategies to maintain a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment. Communicates regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, expectations, and school-related information. Partners with families to support student learning, encourage engagement, and address student needs or concerns. Supervises students in a variety of school settings, including classrooms, gymnasiums, playgrounds, cafeterias, hallways, and field trips, to ensure student safety and well-being. Participates in professional learning opportunities and attends required meetings, trainings, and school activities. Performs other related duties as assigned by school administrators or division leadership.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position operates in a professional school environment that includes classrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, auditoriums, and outdoor learning or recreational areas. The work environment involves noise levels that may range from low to moderate and requires frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout the school day. Occasional climbing, kneeling, or crouching may also be required. Periods of sitting are common while preparing lessons, grading assignments, or completing administrative tasks. The position may require lifting or moving instructional materials, classroom supplies, or equipment weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally up to 25 pounds or more. Regular use of computers, interactive whiteboards, projectors, printers, and other instructional technologies is required to support teaching and learning. Clear verbal communication, active listening, and visual attentiveness are essential for delivering instruction and ensuring student safety. The role involves daily interaction with students and regular collaboration with colleagues, administrators, and families. Occasional travel between school sites or participation in supervised field trips may also be required. Teachers must be able to manage multiple responsibilities and adapt to the demands of a dynamic, fast-paced educational environment.CLEARANCES
