Job Overview:
The High School Literature Teacher reports to the Dean of Academics, and is responsible for delivering rigorous instruction aligned to English standards while supporting students to meet ambitious growth and achievement goals. This role is responsible for ensuring students are growing in reading and writing , specifically that students are working towards meeting/exceeding grade level expectations for their grade level by their MCAS exam in the Spring. This role requires deep content expertise, strong instructional skills, and a commitment to data-driven practice that ensures all students are prepared for future academic challenges. Duties and Responsibilities Essential Responsibilities of the Literature Teacher include but are not limited to: Maintain high expectations for students' academic achievement and conduct Reinforce school-wide rules and expectations Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction aligned to English standards. Plan and execute daily lessons that drive student mastery of rigorous content. Develop and administer a variety of formal and informal assessments to measure students' growth and mastery and to evaluate and refine instruction Provide targeted support, scaffolds, and extensions to meet diverse learners' needs. Use data to inform instruction, reteach skills, and differentiate support to meet the needs of all learners—including multilingual learners and students with IEPs. Identify students who are academically at risk and initiate effective intervention strategies Maintain and enrich subject matter expertise Set ambitious content & academic goals for all students. Monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments. Create a classroom environment that is structured, joyful, inclusive, and grounded in high expectations. Equip students with the critical thinking, analytical writing, and evidence-based reasoning skills that form the foundation of college-level learning Equip students with the skills question, interpret, and construct arguments Collaborate closely with fellow teachers and other staff members Participate actively in professional development Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families Prepare all students for the annual MCAS exam Participate in the Teacher Evaluation Process High quality teacher preparation - materials printed and aligned to the teacher, IPP completed to excellence (exemplar, pacing, priority questions, misconceptions etc) Common Picture - being on time and in correct place for all common picture/hallway post IPP (daily) Grading (weekly) Create/Revise SFMs (weekly) Data prework (bi-monthly) Planning prework (weekly) Unit Unpacking (as needed) Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications;
Desired Skills, and Characteristics:
Bachelor's Degree required Must have avalid Massachusetts Teaching License take and pass Communications & Literacy, and Content MTEL (Massachusetts Test of Educator Licensure) within 1 year of employment with LACS. Must obtain Sheltered English Immersion Endorsement within 1 year of Employment Strong commitment to, belief in, and alignment with mission and vision of Libertas Academy Strong subject-matter expertise in English Demonstrates persistence in overcoming and removing obstacles to goal achievement. Demonstrates a drive, commitment and sense of urgency that inspires others to achieve results. Demonstrated success working with students in traditionally underserved communities Strong belief that all students can succeed Critical thinker and problem-solver Collaborative team player Willingness to engage in frequent dialogue and to be self-reflective with regard to teaching practices Commitment to analyzing student data to push student achievement forward Ability to work with a variety of learning abilities and differentiate for those students with special needs and English Learners Successful classroom manager who firmly believes that a structured environment and high behavioral expectations for all students lead to student achievement Spanish fluency highly desirable All candidates must successfully pass a background check and CORI review Salary & Benefits $51,000 - $75,000 annually •This position contributes to the Massachusetts Teacher Retirement System (MTRS)- 11% of bi-weekly salary.
