Job Description:
Desert West Elementary is seeking a dedicated and passionate 5th Grade English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will foster a love for reading, writing, and critical thinking while creating a positive, engaging classroom environment. This teacher will be responsible for delivering comprehensive ELA instruction that aligns with state standards and supports the development of students' literacy skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver effective, standards-based ELA lessons for 5th-grade students. Promote a love for reading through the use of diverse texts and literary genres. Implement instructional strategies that support the development of reading comprehension, writing skills, grammar, and vocabulary. Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative assessments, providing timely feedback to students and parents. Foster a classroom environment that encourages active participation, respect, and collaboration. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with learning differences. Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate regularly with parents about academic progress. Collaborate with colleagues to enhance instructional practices and participate in school-wide events and professional development.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, English, or a related field. Valid state teaching certification (or in the process of obtaining). Experience teaching elementary students, preferably in English Language Arts. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to inspire students and promote a positive classroom environment. Knowledge of current ELA curriculum standards and instructional practices. Commitment to ongoing professional development.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Education or a related field. Experience with differentiated instruction and use of technology in the classroom.
