Classification Minimum Requirements:
Pursuing a degree in biology, environmental science, or a related field is preferred. Interest in invasive species ecology, aquatic ecosystems, plant management and/or plant biology. Ability to follow detailed instructions, maintain accurate records, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated reliability and enthusiasm for scientific research. Willingness to work occasional weekends or evenings as needed for fieldwork or special projects.
Job Description:
Help set up laboratory experiments and fieldwork to study invasive aquatic plant species. Assist with the collection and processing of research data using established protocols and techniques. Perform routine laboratory tasks, including sample preparation, equipment maintenance, and inventory management. Help maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization to ensure a safe and efficient work environment. Collaborate with research team members to plan, execute experiments, and troubleshoot issues. Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while working with hazardous materials and equipment
Expected Salary:
15.00/hour
Required Qualifications:
This is an hourly OPS position, with flexible scheduling based on project needs and candidate availability. Work will involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions and physical exertion during fieldwork activities. The majority of your time will be spent doing mesocosm work outdoors at our facility in Gainesville, Florida. Laboratory work will also occur inside the facility. Balance between indoor and outdoor activities will be determined based on weather conditions and project needs. Transportation is required.
