911 Telecommunicator

Job Summary Join our dedicated emergency response team as a 911 Telecommunicator, where your quick thinking and exceptional communication skills will make a vital difference in people's lives. Candidates must successfully complete Kentucky State requirements to become a 911 Telecommunicator. These requirements include passing a criminal background check, suitability screening, drug test and polygraph test. Successful candidates are required to complete a 4-week Telecommunicator Academy to become State certified. In house training is also provided. Duties Answer multi-line phone systems promptly and professionally, providing clear and courteous communication to callers. Assess emergency situations through phone triage, gathering essential details such as location, nature of the incident, and any immediate hazards. Dispatch law enforcement, fire services, medical personnel, or other emergency responders using GPS and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools to pinpoint locations accurately. Utilize medical terminology and first aid knowledge to provide pre-arrival instructions to callers when necessary. Maintain accurate data entry by logging call details, incident reports, and dispatch records efficiently and securely. Manage conflict situations with negotiation skills and conflict management techniques to de-escalate distressed callers. Operate sophisticated multi-line phone systems, GPS devices, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software seamlessly during high-pressure scenarios. Conduct transcription of critical information and analyze incoming data to prioritize responses effectively. Uphold strict security protocols to protect sensitive information while ensuring rapid response times. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and emergency teams to coordinate effective responses during crises. Experience Previous experience in emergency dispatching or telecommunication roles is highly preferred but not required. Familiarity with GIS technology, GPS navigation systems, and data analysis tools enhances operational efficiency. Strong communication skills with the ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations are essential. Demonstrated proficiency in typing, transcription, and data entry ensures accurate record keeping under pressure. Experience working with law enforcement adds valuable insight into emergency response coordination but is not required.
