Position Summary:
The Able Seaman is a skilled and experienced member of the deck crew responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the vessel.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Stand watch and maintain a lookout for other vessels, hazards, and obstructions. Steer the vessel under the direction of the Chief Mate. Operate deck machinery, such as winches, cranes, and davits. Load and discharge cargo. Perform maintenance and repair of the vessel's hull, deck, superstructure, and cargo gear. Participate in firefighting and safety drills. Assist with other duties as assigned. Assemble rigging to lift and move equipment or material on board the vessel. Perform any duty that may be required as part of training. Collect, dump, and clean garbage, emptying color-coded receptacles for segregated garbage to the appropriate storage or processing location. Hold a valid merchant-mariner credential. Performs other duties as assigned.
