No phone calls, please .ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES
The Academic Advisor serves as an academic liaison between Main Campus and the Hazleton Center, particularly related to bachelor's degree courses, student learning outcome assessment, scheduling, and academic requirements, including but not limited to internships and course-related service learning. The Advisor provides expertise to new and continuing students in such functions as defining and clarifying educational goals; recommending courses and programs of study; assisting students in the registration process, and reviewing graduation status. With the goal of increasing student retention, particularly of high-risk students, the Advisor provides assistance in the development of educational plan options and resources available, making appropriate referrals to assist students in the evaluation of their educational progress.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintain systematic and frequent contact with assigned advisees. Assist with monitoring the graduation progress of students and keep students informed of required schedule changes. Assist in the registration of bachelor's students to ensure that students remain on path to degree completion. Coordinate and conduct academic orientations prior to each semester, establish realistic education plans for high risk participants in the summer orientation cohort, and provide regular data analysis of participant progress and retention. Coordinate communications to the students regarding such things as advising meetings, registration periods, etc. Understand and interpret the requirements and academic options available to students and assist in their pursuit of their areas of interest. Communicate with Division Chairs based in Scranton to ensure that bachelors program learning goals and requirements are met and assessed. Administer internship program required for bachelors students following the College's established guidelines and procedures, including the running of required Pre Employment Skills Workshops to prepare bachelors students to assume internships. Assist in data collection and analysis of retention goals. As requested, serve on various College committees. Works during high impact periods, which include, but are not limited to: orientations, first two weeks of the semester, last two weeks of the semester prior to finals, and advising periods. Collect and analyze current and future employment of bachelors students. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.KEY COMPETENCIES
Strong organizational skills. Skill in using a complex database. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues. Good interpersonal skills with students and faculty alike. Knowledge of college curricula, assessment, and academic policies and procedures. Able to work early evening hours to provide assistance to the evening student population. Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication.EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in human relations or a related field preferred.EXPERIENCE
Minimum of one year working experience in a student services setting. Evidence of experience working with diverse populations. Prior experience in higher education, preferred. Documented experience with database programs, and ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve a common goal.
