The Long Island Educational Opportunity Center (LIEOC) at Farmingdale State College is seeking an Academic Advisor to guide students in achieving their educational and career goals. This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on students' lives while collaborating with a dynamic team of educators and support staff. The Academic Advisor reports to the Director of Student Services.Responsibilities include:
Provide individual and group academic advising, helping students achieve their educational and career goals. Conduct student interviews to assess academic, personal, and work histories and determine program placement and service needs. Advises prospective, newly admitted, and returning students regarding academic and career goals. Monitor and evaluate student progress, documenting interventions and taking appropriate action as needed. Develop, coordinate, and participate in outreach activities, new student orientation, and recruitment events to support student engagement and retention. Serve as a liaison with faculty and other student facing personnel to enhance the advising process, increase retention, and assist students in completing programs of study. Remains current on all LIEOC course offerings, entry and exit requirements, and continued pathways of study. Manage pending student files, including clinical, financial, and other mandatory requirements. Perform other duties as assigned to support LIEOC programs and student success initiatives. This position may require the flexibility for split shifts (days/evenings) to accommodate student availability as well as travel to satellite locations where LIEOC classes are offered. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree. Computer savvy, with the ability to learn and effectively use student information systems. Ability to travel to various locations across Nassau and Suffolk County.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree. Two years of professional experience, preferably working with non-traditional adult learners. Familiarity with the uses of student databases systems such as Banner. Bilingual.Additional Information:
