Job Description Summary Provides academic and career advising, evaluates academic records, and provides other academic support services to traditional undergraduates/advisors/staff/faculty. The incumbent will thus work as part of the advising team to provide general and major-specific academic advisement as well as career counseling on topics of career readiness, resume development, job search skills, etc. Furthermore, the academic and career advisor will provides academic support and workshops to students, faculty, and staff. Minimum Qualifications Computer Skills. Microsoft Office Suite. Interpersonal Skills. Strong Written & Verbal Skills. Earned Master's degree in Behavioral Sciences, Counseling, Business, Education, or Liberal Arts. Preferred Qualifications Banner Information System and Cognos. 3 years of career advising or related experience. CAREER COUNSELING RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides comprehensive career counseling to students across all colleges and campuses, focusing on career exploration, resume and cover letter development, job and internship search strategies, and interview preparation. Serves as a subject matter expert on the eight NACE Core Competencies and the development of soft skills essential for workplace success. Delivers both individual and group sessions, workshops, and classroom presentations on career readiness topics, including networking, salary negotiation, and use of career development tools such as Handshake, Vault, and Big Interview. Collaborates with faculty, staff, and student organizations to integrate career development into academic and co-curricular experiences, while maintaining up-to-date knowledge of labor market trends and employer expectations to ensure relevant, high-impact advising. Percentage Of Time 30% Specific DutiesACADEMIC ADVISING RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides holistic academic advising to traditional undergraduate students in areas including general education, elective selection, and major-specific requirements to support timely degree completion and academic success. Serves as a knowledgeable resource and point of contact for faculty and staff advisors seeking guidance on university academic policies, degree requirements, and the interpretation of academic audits using tools such as My Degree Tracker. Offers on-demand support to students through walk-in appointments and scheduled sessions, addressing questions related to course registration, academic standing, degree planning, graduation petitions, and commencement procedures. Collaborates closely with the Registrar's Office, academic departments, and support services to ensure accurate advising and alignment with institutional policies. Assists the Dean of Academic and Career Success with planning and implementing advisor training, particularly in preparation for Summer Opportunity for Advising and Registration (SOAR), ensuring a seamless on boarding experience for incoming students. Maintains accurate advising records and actively monitors student progress to promote retention, academic engagement, and early intervention when needed. Percentage Of Time 30% Specific DutiesRETENTION & CAREER PROGRAMMING RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitates workshops and seminars with all colleges and campuses for all students to enrich and facilitate students' advising, registration, and curricular experiences for purposes of retaining through continues registration through graduation. Assists the department in developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating specialized academic and career advising programs, services, and workshops using professional resources and literature. Individual facilitates training workshops for advisors and academic enrichment sessions to traditional undergraduates. Leads presentations and information sessions with other departments who interact with students or are responsible for admission, financial aid, housing, health, or mental health services. Percentage Of Time 25% Specific DutiesADMINISTRATIVE AND COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS
Serves as Academic Advising Office and Career Center representative in administrative and faculty committees as assigned by the Dean or Director. Percentage Of Time 5% Specific Duties REPORTING andDATA EXTRACTION
Extracts data and other reports from Banner and Cognos to provide statistical and narrative reports for the Dean or Director on advising and retention efforts and outcomes. Provides said reports to the division and other campus stakeholders as needed to inform academic, curricular, enrollment, and retention initiatives and interventions.
