POSITION PURPOSE
Serves as the mentor/coach to provide assistance to high school students to be on track for graduation. The academic coach will provide a comprehensive program for high school students and will help prepare the students for a successful high school career.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintains respect at all times for confidential information. Performs duties of the academic coach, including but not limited to increasing attendance rates of students, monitoring grades and credit acquisition, addressing minor discipline issues, providing tutoring to students, maintaining documentation for graduation progress and pathways, and developing plans for post secondary schooling, armed forces or preparation for the workforce. Effectively conducts important contacts with the students, teachers, administrators, parents, public/ community using tact and diplomacy. Identifies at-risk students and assists in determining appropriate placement for students. Develops support and interventions to develop a grade recovery program to meet the needs of the identified students. Provides support to high school teachers on support measures that work with youth identified as at-risk of not graduating. Develops and implements individual, small group, and whole school intervention and prevention strategies to increase the likelihood that students will stay in school and graduate. Collaborates with feeder middle school(s) to identify middle school students at-risk of high school failure. Develops action steps to improve individual student and subgroup transition success rate, by monitoring the targeted student cohort on progress toward goals for graduation. Connects individual students and their parents/guardians with community organizations and programs. Develops or works with local mentoring programs, business and/or community partners to connect individual students with mentors, community resources and services outside of the schools. Provides support and outreach to parents/guardians of students identified as being at risk of not graduating, by providing monthly progress reports and suggestions for how to best support each child. Tracks the progress of individual students and school subgroups as they progress through high school, including providing grading support to classroom teachers for students identified. Confers with other school professionals to determine the most effective strategies for working with the cohort students, including communication with PLC groups. Assists BCSC with the implementation of the strategic plan.

Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as directed.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
May require working under stressful conditions. Requires ability to remain calm during periods of extreme situations. Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Requires occasional lifting of boxes or other items weighing up to 50 pounds
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as providing instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, literature and other content areas taught. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Working knowledge of appropriate strategies for reducing behaviors that put students at-risk of not graduating from high school. Ability to analyze, develop, implement, and track intervention plans and strategies. Knowledge of alternative education opportunities. Knowledge of and the ability to analyze data, including data available from the Indiana Department of Education, and from other sources.
QUALIFICATIONS
Indiana Department of Education Teaching or School Services license. Minimum of a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution. Motor Vehicle Operator License or ability to provide own transportation.
Certification/License:
[IN] State Certification as a Teacher.
Education:
Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignments.
Experience:
Successful classroom teaching experience Successful experience working with at-risk secondary students preferred.
Salary:
Teacher Salary Schedule & Stipend amount of $4,135 Benefits Available 182.5 day contract (Plus 5 Extra Days of Daily Rate)
