About Young Audiences Charter Schools Young Audiences Charter Schools (YACS) offers a unique and highly desired arts-integrated model that seamlessly aligns with the identity of the Greater New Orleans Area. With multiple schools in New Orleans and Jefferson Parish, YACS works arduously to achieve its mission of educating the whole child through arts integration and equipping all creative learners to flourish as leaders in life and learning. YACS Creative Learners from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade are provided with appropriate arts-integrated learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Who is a Creative Educator? YACS Creative Educators educators work collaboratively to develop sound instructional strategies rooted in the foundations of arts integration. With a dedicated focus on improving student outcomes, our school-level and network-level leadership is committed to supporting teachers in becoming transformative educators. YACS is a family of Creative Educators committed to "Academic Excellence with an Artistic Edge". Reporting to the Principal and/or Assistant Principal the Instructional Specialist supports the Principal and Assistant Principal in his/her leadership of the school's academic program. While the exact responsibilities of this position may vary based on placement ( i.e. Lower, Middle, High School), the Instructional Specialist works to achieve the academic priorities of the school. The Instructional Specialist works with the Principal to support teacher development, implement instructional performance management, evaluate support personnel, successfully implement the curriculum and meet all other academic goals defined by the district and the Principal. The Instructional Specialist works closely with department chairs and other school leadership team members to provide students with appropriate arts-integrated learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth that are aligned with the school's mission and vision.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership Teach up to 25% of the day as determined by campus leadership and need. Provide individualized coaching to teachers in your content areas/grade band based on data, observation, and student work analysis. Lead weekly planning meetings with teachers grounded in standards and the HQIM for your content areas/grade band. Create a long range plan for a professional learning cycle based on data, observation, and student work analysis. Develop and lead weekly cluster meetings for teachers in your content areas/grade bands. Support and coach master teachers as needed. Conduct formal observation cycles for teachers on your campus. Create and implement formal coaching plans as needed for teachers. Lead campus-based professional learning for teachers in your content areas/grade bands. Participate on the Instructional Leadership Team. Fully participate in all network professional learning opportunities. Teach and/or organize content within your content areas/grade bands in the event of a long term vacancy/absence. Perform any other duties as assigned by the principal or network leadership team. Communication Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents, leadership, and other colleagues. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Professional Conduct and Other Exhibit professional judgment and responsibility at all times. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Participate in assigned morning, lunch, and afternoon duties. Follow attendance policy as assigned by the supervisor. Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and/or supervisor. Attend and participate in faculty meetings, school events, and serve on staff committees as required. Direct Management Responsibilities The Instructional Specialist directly manages a caseload of core content teachers according to parameters established in the instructional leadership team meetings The Instructional Specialist develops and implements systems to ensure compliance with our instructional programming and TAP best practices Reports to: School Principal/ Assistant Principal Required Qualifications 3+ years successful teaching experience 2+ years successful experience coaching other teachers 2+ years experience leading professional learning Demonstrated understanding of standards, assessment guidance, best practices, and pedagogy for content area/grade bands. Desired Qualifications Deep understanding of the HQIM used by our charter network for your content area/grade bands. Louisiana Teacher Certification or out of state equivalent Louisiana Leader Certification or out of state equivalent Salary and Benefits Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience.
