Job Description

The South Florida Water Management District is recruiting for a full-time Senior Accountant position with 4+ years of Government/Public Sector experience in the Finance Bureau located at the Headquarter office located in West Palm Beach. This position will be responsible for grants management and GL reconciliations, journal entry preparation and review for posting to the general ledger, perform data entry transactions for Grants & Intergovernmental Revenue Section, preparation of financial statements, reconciliations, schedules, and reports in support of statutory requirements, preparation of annual audit schedules for annual comprehensive financial report and other audits as required. SAP experience is preferable. The ideal candidate possesses strong Microsoft excel skills managing large datasets, excellent customer service collaborating with internal and external teams, and advanced research skills. Candidates must possess strong organizational skills while multi-tasking priorities within statutory deadlines. Quick learners with a team approach are ideal candidates.
Job Responsibilities:
Prepare accounting journal entries for posting to the general ledger. Review and Post accounting journal entries to the general ledger. Perform data entry transactions for accounts receivable, projects, or general ledger into the District's financial system. Prepare monthly schedules for various accounts. Prepare monthly reconciliations for general ledger accounts, comparing external source documentation to general ledger balances. Prepare and assist in preparing financial schedules, statements, and reports (monthly, quarterly, annually) as required by contracts, agreements, federal code, and Florida Statute. Provide audit support for internal and external audit requests and selections. Provide backup coverage for other staff in their absence. Perform other tasks and projects as assigned. Maintain confidentiality of data. Seeking a Senior Accountant, with the flexibility to hire at the Staff or Entry level, dependent on qualifications and experience.
Employment Guidelines:
Senior Accountant:
Bachelor's Degree (Master's preferred) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field and 4+ years experience in professional accounting including progressively responsible accounting or finance work preferably in a public sector or governmental entity.
Staff Accountant:
Bachelor's Degree (Master's preferred) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field and 2+ years experience in professional accounting or finance work preferably in a public sector or governmental entity.
Accountant:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field and less than 1 year experience in the accounting field. License(s)/ Certifications(s): Valid State of Florida Driver's License required. CGFO or CPA is preferred.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment:
Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies.
