Accounting Assistants provide accounting and office support for departments, divisions and/or teams across the County. There is currently one (1) onsite full-time Accounting Assistant vacancy within the Department of Finance described below: Department of Finance - Property Tax Division This Accounting Assistant supports the daily operations of the Department of Finance Property Tax Division and performs a variety of para-professional accounting duties with a focus on the billing and collection of local property taxes. In addition, the Accounting Assistant supports the daily operations of the Department of Finance Treasury Deposit Desk and is primarily responsible for approving cash deposits and reconciling daily cash balances, This position uses existing accounting and fiscal policies and procedures for preparing, reviewing and analyzing accounting records and reports. The position involves extensive customer service, cashiering and direct public contact daily. Experience in performing calculations and reconciliations and use of a variety of computer applications and knowledge of property tax or other billing/collection experience is desirable. Furthermore, the role includes managing the efficient processing of large volumes of incoming mail which entails ensuring timely and accurate sorting, categorization, and distribution to relevant departments within the department. This position requires working onsite at the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael, CA.ABOUT YOU
Our Highly Qualified Candidate is organized, dependable, flexible, accurate and able to work both independently and with a professional team. The ideal candidate is an excellent written and verbal communicator and has direct experience in customer service with the ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when dealing with the public and other departmental personnel. Additionally, they can clearly articulate and document appropriate accounting procedures and have experience in governmental accounting practices or similarly regulated environments in the private sector. Experience working with financial accounting, banking, customer account maintenance and statistical reporting systems is also highly desirable.KNOWLEDGE OF
Principles and practices of financial and accounting document processing and record Procedures, terminology and forms related to the functional area(s) to which assigned. Computer applications related to the work, including word processing, database and spreadsheet applications. Standard office practices and procedures, the operation of standard office equipment. Basic budgetary and public agency financial record keeping principles and terminology. Business arithmetic.ABILITY TO
Perform responsible accounting, financial, payroll, billing statistical and/or budgetary support work. Prepare a variety of financial, accounting, payroll and statistical reports, journals and ledgers, utilizing departmental-specific computer and network applications. Review and reconcile financial, accounting, payroll and budgetary documents and records. Enter a variety of information into automated financial, accounting and statistical reporting systems. Interpret, explain and apply standard accounting, financial, departmental and County policies, procedures and transactions Make accurate arithmetic and statistical calculations. Prepare accurate and timely billings. Meet critical deadlines. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the workMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
Two years of accounting and/or financial office support experience that includes preparing, processing, and maintaining accounting documents and records.
