Job Description
SUMMARY OF POSITION
We are seeking a compassionate and engaging Activity Assistant to join our Activity Team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals living with dementia and a passion for creating meaningful, person-centered activities that promote dignity, independence, and joy. Experience with sensory-based programming, Montessori approaches for dementia care, creative arts, music, gardening, reminiscence therapy, and hands-on engagement is highly preferred. This position requires patience, creativity, strong communication skills, and the ability to provide a calm, supportive environment while encouraging socialization, cognitive stimulation, and purposeful daily routines for our residents.JOB QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS 1.
Must be at least 25 years of age 2. High school diploma or equivalent, with specialized training or certification in field 3. A valid TN driver's license and clean driving record and valid auto insurance for driving our vehicles. 4. Previous experience working with individuals with dementia related disorders. 5. Experience in recreational, memory care, or long-term care settings. 6. Supervisory experienceKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Excellent creative and communication skills, in both written and oral form Ability to make independent decisions with staff, volunteers, and residents Able to work with individuals who have cognitive, physical, or sensory disabilities Outstanding interpersonal skills with high level of energy and enthusiasm Experience in working with volunteers and ability to organize and develop Organization, documentation, and implementation of detailed programs that meet the needs of the residents Knowledge of Alzheimer's disease, dementia progression, and person-centered care approaches Ability to plan and implement cognitively appropriate activities for varying levels of dementia Strong observation skills to identify behavioral changes, triggers, and resident responses Genuine caring for and interest in aging adults in a residential setting Comply with Residents' Rights and other PoliciesJOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Essential Duties:
Assist in developing and implementing a structured memory care activity program that follows best practices for Alzheimer's and dementia care. Lead daily activity programs that support residents' physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and cognitive well-being Lead daily group and individualized activities designed to support: Cognitive stimulation, Emotional well-being, Physical movement, Social interaction, Sensory based programming, and routine-based engagement. Support structured daily routines to provide consistency and reduce confusion for memory care residents. Observe and document residents' responses to activities and report behavioral changes or concerns to the Activity Director and nursing staff. Assist with redirection and de-escalation techniques during activities as needed. Give reminders for all activities to residents in a timely manner and help assist residents to and from activities as needed, ensuring safety at all times. Support special events, holiday celebrations, outings, and family/community programs by implementing ideas, planning, and assistance where needed. Build positive relationships with residents and promote a warm, engaging atmosphere. Work collaboratively with nursing, caregiving staff, volunteers, and other departments Follow all assisted living policies, state regulations, and resident rights at all times. Maintain activity areas, bulletin boards, and displays to create a welcoming environment. Create and distribute the regular schedule for activities; review with staff and volunteers to assure a safe and timely process to meet the needs of residents. Assist with facility marketing when instructed by the Administrator. Serve as a primary information source for families, residents, and visitors. Develop and maintain an active volunteer program through marketing, development, support, and organization. Encourage participation by residents, family members, staff, visitors, and community groups and individuals. Assign and train volunteers and maintain documentation of volunteer hours. Coordinate pastoral services and music therapy as needed. Participate in required in-service training. Assess each resident and participate in the development and implementation of the individualized service plan if warranted by the Director of Nursing. Assist with interviewing new residents, talk with families, and view charts to determine the level and types of activities needed. Chart/ log resident's attendance and outcomes daily. Ensure that appropriate equipment, supplies, resources, and transportation are available to residents for all planned activities and events, as necessary. Report any needs to the Activity Director. Ensure that all activities and events occur as scheduled; if plans change, substitute another activity in the place of the one that was cancelled. Keep Administrator informed on a regular basis of department functions, recommending ideas for a more well-rounded program. Keep the 'Activities Area' clutter free and in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner at all times. Sanitize tables, chairs, and equipment between activities. Document minutes of meetings as well as follow-up to any concerns expressed at the meeting if instructed by the Activity Director. Support social media content by capturing appropriate photos, activity highlights, and event information for posting, following privacy and consent guidelines. The position of Activities Coordinator requires a moderate amount of lifting and carrying of objects. The person in this position sits, stands, bends, lifts, pushes, and moves intermittently throughout the workday. They work indoors and outdoors with planned activities.
