Job Description

OSAGE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR
The mission of the Osage Community School is to sustain and enhance a caring community to produce enthusiasm for lifelong learning.
JOB SUMMARY
Reports to:
High School Principal and Superintendent Summary:
Oversee the 7-12 extra-curricular athletic activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides support and direction for the 7-12 athletic programs and any intramural athletics. Works to maintain cohesion between the middle school and high school athletic programs. Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and feedback for evaluations of athletic coaches. (If the AD holds an appropriate evaluation license, they will complete all coach evaluations. If the AD is not the official evaluator, they will inform the evaluating principal of any coach who is not fulfilling his/her duties or role.) Coordinates schedules of all athletic teams. Establishes and maintains master activities and facility use calendar for all sports. Coordinates home vents including set up, officials, workers, tear-down, and supervision. Maintains contracts for umpires/referees/officials and works closely with the business office to ensure payment to those contest umpires/referees/officials. Coordinates transportation for athletic participants when travel is necessary. Develops, with building principal assistance, appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of teams and coaches. Enforces physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participating in each sport. Purchases or recommends the purchase of equipment and supply needs of the athletic programs; following the approved athletic budget and process for making purchases. Collaborates with the Athletic Trainer to ensure that ice and medical supply kits are well stocked and maintained. Works with visiting teams to insure needed services. Coordinates and approves athletic field and gym practice schedules for all athletic teams. Works closely with the athletic booster clubs to promote school policy and philosophy as it applies to the booster groups. Attends monthly, or otherwise scheduled, meetings. Schedules and facilitates purposeful coaches meetings as necessary each year. Maintains agendas for all coaches meetings. Fosters an attitude of cooperation and good public relations; can get along well with others. Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school. Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with student-athletes, coaches, school nurse, staff, administration, parents, and health professionals and agencies. Works with the community in generating and coordinating support for all athletic programs and developing a smooth working relationship with the Osage schools. Has the ability to make good decisions and take charge in emergency situations. Assist in supervising athletic events. Emphasizes to coaches and athletes safety precautions and ensures that all athletic activities are appropriately supervised. Supervises ticket sales and fundraising events for athletic programs and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds. Make sure all athletes have properly signed physical forms on file. Keeps an updated eligibility list and keeps coaches informed of the same. Keeps an updated inventory of all athletic equipment, uniforms, and supplies. Supervises the cleaning, storage, and care of all athletic equipment and uniforms. Orders and keeps all awards on hand (letters, chevrons, and certificates, etc.) Assist coaches in the awarding of those awards to athletes. Assist administration in the coordination of building and facility usage. Communicate to coaches the expectations and responsibilities in terms of their performance. Helps to generate sponsors for special activities. Protect confidentiality of records and information about students and staff, and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines. Completes and sends in all necessary forms for membership and participation in both State Athletic Associations. Adheres to applicable state/federal laws, rules and regulations, board policies and administrative rules. Informs athletes, coaches, and administration of current or new rules, regulations, and policies. Creates or maintains a Coach's Handbook that includes, but is not limited to: Athletic Department Goals, Activities Program and Sportsmanship Philosophies, Participation Rules, Standards for Conduct, Emergency Care of Student-Athletes, Athletic Award Requirements, Supervision Responsibilities, Communication Expectations, Practices, Care of Equipment and Facilities, Evaluation Process, and the Budget Process. Ensures all varsity head coaches hold pre-season parent meetings and share pertinent information specific to their sport. (i.e. team handbook, expectations, schedule, etc.) Oversees that all coaches complete their forms (transportation request, inventories, meal money, leave request, year-end reports, etc.) in a timely manner. Provides an appropriate role model for the students. Follows administrative directives and expectations of the principal and superintendent. Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities assigned by the principal or superintendent.
SPECIFICATIONS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS
Maintain a current and valid Iowa teaching certificate. Prior knowledge and skills to facilitate successful extra-curricular athletic programs.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
As determined by the Master Contract Agreement.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on
Evaluation of Certified Personnel:
usually performed by the H.S. Principal or Superintendent.

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Duties are normally performed in a school/office/athletic field or gymnasium environment, and may include duties performed in each of those environments. Lighting is adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by dust or other materials. Temperature can vary with participation in any number of associated outdoor activities.
