Summary :
The Adjunct Professor of Developmental Reading and Writing is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to students enrolled in pre-college level reading and writing courses. The instructor supports diverse learners in developing foundational literacy, critical thinking, and academic skills necessary for success in college-level coursework.
Education and Experience :
Masters degree in English, Reading, Composition, Education, or a closely related fieldORa masters degree with at least 18 graduate credits in English or a related discipline from a US regionally or nationally accredited institution of higher learning. One year teaching experience in the appropriate field required. Background in student support strategies, such as tutoring, advising, or academic coaching is preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Ability :
Effective classroom management and student engagement skills. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff. Demonstrated ability to teach developmental or basic skills reading and/or writing. Commitment to working with diverse and underprepared student populations.
Essential Functions:
Conducting classroom instruction at the highest possible level of efficiency and interest for students. Integrate reading, writing, and critical thinking strategies to promote academic literacy. Utilize instructional technology and the learning management system (LMS) for course delivery and communication. Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress in compliance with college policies; submit certification rolls require by the Central Texas College Registrar office by submission due date. Communicate regularly with students regarding course expectations, progress, and resources. Attend departmental staff meetings as required. Other duties as assigned.
