We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about vocal music and directing a choir, who values diversity of repertoire and audience, uses creative and inclusive pedagogical approaches, and actively accommodates the needs and interests of our students. This position reports to the Director of Music Program and the Chair of the Arts Division and will maintain productive communication with the music department, including with the other adjunct ensemble directors and vocal faculty. This is an Adjunct Professor Position with a one-year renewable contract starting
AY 2026-2027
(September 6, 2026 - May 13, 2027). There are no responsibilities during winter break, December 22, 2026 - January 19, 2027, or during the summer months. The Director is responsible for conducting all rehearsals and concerts, and for the necessary administrative responsibilities that support the musical education mission.
MUSICAL DUTIES
Weekly Direct rehearsals Tuesday and Thursday 4:10-5:40 Shared responsibility with student leaders for sectionals, Wednesdays 4:10-5:40 One-off Concerts, retreats, community service: Fall Semester Parent/Family Concert, November 7, 2026, Saturday, 4pm Homecoming/Alumni church service at Hamline United Methodist Church, October 4 Winter (Christmas Concert) at Hamline United Methodist Church, tentatively December 13, Sunday at 4pm Spring or Fall weekend retreat or other bonding event, tbd Spring Concert late April, tbd Run-out service to the community (off-campus), tbd Past local/regional trips included: 2019 to Milwaukee, 2022 to Duluth, 2024 to St. Paul schools. The students and director continue to fundraise for larger tours.
Optional:
Private vocal studio teaching for additional income.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Keep consistent communications with Full-time Faculty and Vocal Instructor(s) Maintain A Cappella's relationship with alumni and Institutional Development Collaborate with choir student leadership, Music Program Director and Division Chair to manage the Choir's restricted budgets, fundraising opportunities, and calendar Participating in Vocal Auditions at the start of Fall term Select students to receive the Holliday Scholarship
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Arts from an accredited college or university Experience as a Choir Director Experience conducting, singing, and piano accompanying capability
PREFFERED REQUIREMENTS
Master's degree in music or DMA/Ph.D from an accredited college or university 10 plus years' experience as a Choir Director SALARY - $15,000 per year.
