Job Description Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for an Administrative Support Specialist. This position will provide confidential and comprehensive administrative support to the Senior Vice President of Member Services, supporting both departmental and corporate objectives. The candidate will manage calendars, schedules, departmental events, vendor contracts, prepare reports, drafts correspondence, and coordinates departmental communications and information flow. The candidate will provide managerial and supervisory coverage for the Customer Care division, participates in customer care projects, and assists with testing and analysis of business systems. The position will assist with tracking and reporting departmental statistics (e.g., self-serve initiatives, bill payment trends, call stats, solar/battery/EV growth), and perform quantitative analysis for operational improvements. The candidate will manage and coordinate responses to customer complaints, including Public Service Commission complaints and high usage inquiries. The Administrative Support Specialist will also assist in developing and analyzing the department's operating and capital budgets, including trend analysis, budget estimations, and variance reconciliation. Lastly, the position will support the review and processing of interconnection applications and related documentation. The Administrative Support Specialist must be highly organized, dependable, proactive and detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication, time management and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, discretion, sound judgement, and adaptability while managing multiple priorities, maintaining confidentiality, anticipating needs, and providing accurate and responsive administrative support. This position requires a high school diploma. An associate's degree is preferred with work experience in customer service, business administration, office management, or related field. The candidate must possess strong customer service, analytical, written/verbal communications, and MS Office skills. Experience with an electric utility or similar business is desirable. Knowledge of SMECO Policies and Procedures and Business Processes, Remedy Help Desk, Emergency Response Plan, Disaster Recovery Plan, and IT Security Policy/Procedures are preferred. The starting salary range for this position is $65,300 - $81,500. SMECO offers an excellent benefits program including a 401(k) 6% dollar for dollar match and an additional 3% non-elective company contribution.
