This is not just a camp job. It is a meaningful, year-round leadership role inside a camp with deep traditions, rich history, and a culture that people carry with them for life. Rooted in a Tolkien-inspired spirit, Camp Riverlea has been creating belonging, imagination, friendship, and growth for generations. We are looking for someone who will not only help run camp well, but who will also value what makes Riverlea special and help carry that legacy forward. This role is ideal for someone who is warm, steady, highly responsible, and able to balance leadership, logistics, staff support, and administrative follow-through . You should be someone who notices what needs to happen, communicates clearly, follows through without being chased, and helps others rise to the standard. The mission of this role To help Camp Riverlea run with excellence by supporting staff leadership, camper care, family communication, and operational follow-through year-round, while serving as a trusted second-in-command to the Camp Director. What success looks like A great Assistant Camp Director will: Help build a staff team that is supported, accountable, and well-led Help create a camper experience that is safe, caring, fun, and well-organized Make sure important details, paperwork, schedules, and systems do not fall through the cracks Support smooth, prepared, low-chaos execution before and during camp season Become a trusted operational and leadership partner to the Camp Director Key outcomes for this role In this role, success means: Hiring and staffing support is strong. Seasonal hiring workflows move forward on time, candidates are tracked well, and onboarding details stay organized. Staff are guided and supported well. Team members receive clear communication, coaching, accountability, and backup when challenges arise. Camper and behavior issues are handled thoughtfully. Incidents are followed through on with sound judgment, professionalism, and care. Camp preparation is organized before summer begins. Group lists, staffing plans, schedules, records, and preseason details are ready. Camp operations stay strong year-round. Administrative systems, family communication, planning work, and program details are handled with consistency and professionalism. Summer camp runs with strong leadership presence. During camp, you are a visible, dependable leader who helps keep people informed, supported, and on track. What you'll do Support staff hiring, onboarding, and training Help manage hiring and staffing workflows in Monday.com Help supervise staff and provide day-to-day guidance Support behavior management, incident follow-up, and staff coaching Assist with group lists, staffing assignments, and schedules Support camp setup and preseason readiness Help maintain records, staff paperwork, and key camp systems Communicate clearly with families and help support parent concerns Help coordinate spring break camp and summer camp operations Serve as a strong daily leadership presence during summer camp Support year-round planning, logistics, and administrative needs that help camp run well in every season The kind of person who will thrive here You will likely thrive in this role if you are: Deeply responsible — you take ownership and follow through Coachable — you can receive feedback, adjust, and grow Steady under pressure — you stay calm when things get busy or messy Warm but firm — you build trust and can still hold standards Organized and dependable — details matter to you Relational — you work well with staff, kids, and families Service-minded — you care about the mission more than ego Committed to strong culture — you want to help create a team people are proud to be part of This role may not be a fit if you: Need constant direction to stay organized Struggle with follow-through Avoid hard conversations Dislike administrative work Get overwhelmed easily when multiple things need attention Want a role that is only creative or only relational without operational responsibility Have difficulty holding standards with staff when needed Preferred background Strong candidates may come from roles such as: Assistant Camp Director Day Camp Director Afterschool Director Youth Program Manager Site Director Student Support Coordinator Dean of Students Child Care Assistant Director Behavioral Support leadership roles Experience in camp, schools, childcare, afterschool, or youth programs is highly valued. Schedule This is a full-time, year-round position . The rhythm of the work changes throughout the year. Some seasons are more focused on planning, hiring, systems, communication, and preparation. Other seasons, especially spring break camp and summer camp, are more operationally intense and require strong on-site leadership, flexibility, and presence. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both the behind-the-scenes work that makes camp successful and the day-to-day leadership needed when camp is in full swing.
