Overview History of the
Company:
Superior Ambulance Service started in 1959 with one ambulance and today is the largest independent, locally owned, and operated emergency medical services provider in the Midwest. Superior employs more than 4,000 licensed EMTs, Paramedics and Nurses, operating a fleet of more than 800 ambulances throughout Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Superior also provides Critical Care, helicopter, and fixed wing emergency medical transportation. The Cash Application Representative plays a vital role in the revenue cycle of Superior Ambulance. This position is responsible for accurately and efficiently processing, balancing, and posting all incoming payments; including commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, facility contracts, and patient co-pays. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, a knack for navigating complex Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), and an understanding of healthcare billing practices. Responsibilities The primary duties and responsibilities of the Cash Application Rep consist of, but are not limited to the following:
Payment Posting:
Accurately post daily high-volume electronic funds transfers (EFT), lockbox deposits, credit card payments, and paper checks to patient accounts.
EOB & ERA
Interpretation:
Review and interpret complex Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and Electronic Remittance Advices (ERAs) to properly allocate primary, secondary, and patient liabilities.
Reconciliation:
Reconcile daily posted batches against bank deposits to ensure 100% accuracy and balance.
Denial & Takeback Identification:
Identify and route payment denials, insurance takebacks, and recoupments to the appropriate billing or appeals team for resolution. Qualifications Qualifications & Skills High school diploma or equivalent accepted , College Preferred Minimum of 1-2 years of cash posting or healthcare A ccounts R eceivable experience. Experience with EMS/Ambulance billing preferred. Proficiency with billing software ( RescueNet , EMS Healthcare software, or similar) S trong data entry skills ( minimum 45 WPM, high 10-key speed and accuracy). Strong understanding of EOB layouts, healthcare deductibles, co-insurance, and standard billing codes. Basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel for tracking and basic reporting. High level of precision when working with large volumes of financial data to prevent posting errors.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is consistently required to sit for extended periods; use hands, fingers, handle, feel; and talk, hear & see. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to work under high pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly in verbal contact with others and constantly works face-to-face with and around others. The employee must be able to adapt to changing environmental conditions.
