Job Description

Employment Opportunity:
Medical Billing Specialist North Mississippi State Hospital is searching for a Medical Billing Specialist for the Tupelo, Mississippi location in Lee County. This is a Contractual Day Shift Position. The Medical Billing Specialist will be responsible for preparing and submitting claims to Medicare and private insurance carriers, verifying insurance coverage, eligibility and benefits prior to patients receiving service, reviewing provider documentation to ensure accurate coding (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), and follows up on unpaid, denied, or rejected claims to resolve discrepancies. The incumbent will support the mission of NMSH to provide the highest quality acute psychiatric care for Northeast Mississippi adults in the process of recovery.
Essential Functions:
This is professional Medical Billing Specialist position accountable for assisting the Fiscal Services Department. The incumbent is responsible for accurately preparing, submitting, and managing medical claims to Medicare, Medicaid, and private/commercial insurance carriers. This role ensures timely reimbursement, resolves claim discrepencies and supports the revenue cycle through precise documentation and effective communication with patients, providers, and payers. Incumbents work under minimum supervision and oversees medical billing functions of the agency. Process claim corrections, reconsiderations, and appeals as needed. Post payments, adjustments, and denials accurately into billing system. Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and ERA files for accuracy. Communicate with insurance representatives to clarify claim issues. Maintain patient billing accounts, including statements and balences. Ensures compliance with Medicare regulations and payer guidelines.
Salary:
$15.00 per hour.
Experience/Education Requirements:
Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED or High School Equivalency Diploma. Preferred Associate Degree and five (5) years medical billing experience.
