Full Job Description Title:
Remote Surgical Billing & Coding Specialist Reports To :
Medical Billing Manager, CAO Job Summary:
Responsible for the accurate coding and the timely submission of insurance claims and patient statements. Ensures that all receivables are correctly posted to the software system. Also ensures that all aberrant payables are reviewed by management, resubmitted, and paid in a timely manner. Works with Medical Billing Manager, Administrators, Clinical Coordinator, Business Office members and Physicians and their Office Staff, to achieve the objectives, visions, and goals of the surgical center.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the daily generation of all insurance claims within days of case completion. 2. Ensures the accuracy of coding by reviewing procedure documentation. 3. Resolves any coding discrepancies with physician or administration before submitting claims to insurances. 4. Complies with
CMS NCCI
when accurately completing UB04 and
HCFA 1500
claims for electronic or paper submission. 5. Posts insurance and patient claim payments to the software system. 6. Monitors aging A/R and conducts status updates for all insurance claims outstanding longer than 30 days from date of service. 7. Corrects and resubmits rejected or denied claims. 8. Conducts monthly patient account balance statement review and subsequent billing. 9. Arranges patient payment programs in compliance with surgical center's policy. 10. Copies, organizes, and stores all checks and explanation of benefits. 11. Fields all billing related questions that patients may have. 12. Checks insurance benefits as needed. 13. Participates in appropriate meetings. 14. Participates and supports research and improvement studies that can make meaningful contributions to the quality and economy of surgical center's services. 15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
1. Associates Degree in Applied Science in Medical Billing and Coding or other medical discipline, or 2 years medical billing and coding experience required. 2. Professional Coding Certification preferred. 3. Familiarity with medical terminology and procedural nomenclature. 4. Must have advanced clerical training, which includes typing, scanning, basic filing skills and fundamental understanding of office procedures. 5. Computer records system experience. 6. Knowledge of all Local, State and Federal confidentiality requirements regarding protected health information. 7. Ability to set priorities for completion of daily work schedule and assignments. 8. Strong verbal and written communication skills. 9. Excellent phone etiquette. Physical/Mental Requirements 1. Work requires constant attention to accuracy and detail for extended periods of time. 2. Demonstrates interpersonal communication skills required to facilitate effective interaction with a variety of healthcare professionals. 3. Ability to work with minimal supervision and organize work in order of importance. 4. Minimal to moderate physical effort is required. 5. Extended periods of sitting and computer use. 6. Occasional lifting, bending, walking, kneeling, turning, and reaching. Working Conditions (Environmental) 1.
Remote Pay:
$22.00 - $25.00 per hour
