Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Orthopedic Billing Specialist to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing the complete billing process for orthopedic services, ensuring accurate coding, timely claims submission, and effective follow-up on unpaid accounts. Your expertise will help streamline revenue cycle management, improve cash flow, and support exceptional patient care. Responsibilities Review and interpret medical documentation to assign appropriate CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes for orthopedic procedures and diagnoses Ensure accurate DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) assignments to facilitate proper reimbursement processes Prepare and submit insurance claims electronically using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective communication with insurance companies and patients Maintain detailed medical records and billing documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations Collaborate with medical office staff to verify patient information, insurance details, and coding accuracy Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and billing regulations to ensure ongoing compliance Assist in resolving billing discrepancies and managing collections for outstanding balances Qualifications Proven experience in medical billing, preferably within an orthopedic or specialized medical setting Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy related to orthopedics, and healthcare coding standards including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG, and ICD coding systems Familiarity with Athena EMR and EHR systems used for medical records management and billing processes Excellent understanding of medical collection procedures and patient account management Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately and assign appropriate codes efficiently Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment Prior experience with medical office operations is preferred but not required Join our team as an Orthopedic Billing Specialist if you're passionate about healthcare finance, thrive on accuracy, and want to contribute to a supportive environment where your expertise makes a difference.
