Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Medical Billing Specialist to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will manage the entire billing process, ensuring accurate and timely submission of claims to insurance companies and patients. Your expertise will help optimize revenue cycle management, improve cash flow. The ideal candidate is passionate about healthcare administration, possesses strong knowledge of medical coding and billing procedures, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Prepare and submit accurate medical claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with insurance guidelines. Review patient records for completeness and accuracy, including medical records, diagnoses, procedures, and billing codes such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group). Apply appropriate ICD coding and CPT coding to classify diagnoses and procedures correctly for reimbursement purposes. Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies, including resubmission or appeals when necessary. Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and patient eligibility prior to billing to prevent claim rejections. Maintain detailed documentation of all billing activities, claims status updates, and correspondence with payers. Stay current with changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and compliance regulations to ensure accurate billing practices. Experience Prior experience in medical billing or medical office administration is highly preferred. Strong understanding of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards. Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems used for billing and record-keeping. Knowledge of
ICD-9, ICD-10
coding systems as well as CPT coding for procedures. Familiarity with DRG classifications used in hospital billing processes. Experience handling medical collections and resolving claim denials efficiently. Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex medical information accurately.
