03/11/13 Summary Oversees all functions of the inpatient/outpatient billing office to include a staff of credit, collection, insurance and billing clerks. Coordinates activities and schedules work assignments to meet rigid billing deadlines. Oversees all functions of the admissions and centralized scheduling departments, through an intermediary supervisor. Provides guidance and instruction in the interpretations of office policies, procedures, and practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Develops, evaluates, implements, and revises policies and procedures related to billing and reimbursement activities. Ensures accounts receivable records are maintained in a confidential manner and in accordance with standard accounting procedures. Maintains appropriate internal controls over accounts receivable. Ensures security of cash payment on accounts. Monitors accounts sent for collection and reimbursements from insurance companies and other third party payors. Reviews, monitors, and evaluates third party reimbursement compliance and researches variances. Keeps abreast of all reimbursement billing procedures of third party and private insurance payors and government regulations. Supervises the inpatient and outpatient charge posting, billing, and collection operation to insure consistent application, interpretation, and implementation of policies and procedures. Plans work schedules and assigns work to staff to ensure adequate service and coverage. Conducts staff meetings to discuss new or modified procedures within department. Plans, prepares, and administers annual department budget. Develops and maintains budgetary controls. Coordinates activities of department with other departments within hospital. Prepares reports, statistics, and surveys related to billings, collections, and reimbursements. Education and/or Experience Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. , Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises seven employees in the Business Office. Also manages one subordinate supervisor who oversees a total of 15 employees in the
BUSINESS
OFFICE and 3 additional employees in
CENTRALIZED SCHEDULING.
Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises 27 non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Education and/or Experience Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises employees in the Business Office. Also manages one subordinate supervisor who oversees the
BUSINESS
OFFICE and additional employees in
CENTRALIZED SCHEDULING.
