Job Description

Looking for flexible, independent work? Lee County is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented independent contractor to assist with property data collection. This flexible, part-time opportunity is ideal for individuals who enjoy working independently, spending time outdoors, and using technology to complete field-based assignments. The contractor will provide property data collection services on an "as needed" basis to support the County's assessment functions. Work volume may vary depending on assessment cycles, with increased activity during peak periods. This a bona fide independent contractor role. The contractor retains control over the means and methods of completing assigned work, including scheduling and work approach, subject to agreed-upon deadlines and deliverables. Compensation $25.00 per hour Mileage reimbursement at the current IRS standard mileage rate Scope of Work The contractor will be responsible for completing property data collection tasks, including but not limited to: Locating, identifying, and measuring building dimensions Preparing rough sketches of property structures Collecting and recording property characteristics such as construction type, size, condition, age, and other relevant details Taking, labeling, and managing digital photographs of properties Reviewing available materials such as property records, maps, and, when applicable, blueprints or floor plans Utilizing digital imagery, parcel data, and mapping tools to complete assignments Maintaining accurate, organized records of all fieldwork performed Reporting updates such as new construction, additions, demolitions, or property changes Preferred SkillsCompetencies Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Comfort using computers and standard software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) Ability to read and navigate using maps; familiarity with Lee County is a plus Ability to interact professionally and courteously with the public Interest or experience in real estate, property assessment, or construction is preferred Work EnvironmentPhysical Requirements Work is performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions typical of Illinois Requires walking, standing, bending, and occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds) Use of measuring tools, cameras, and computer devices is required Must be able to safely access and navigate a variety of property types ToolsEquipment The contractor is responsible for providing necessary tools and equipment, including but not limited to: Reliable vehicle Valid driver's license and automobile insurance Measuring device (tape measure or laser) Smartphone, tablet, or camera for photos and data entry Internet access for submitting completed work ScheduleExpectations Work is assigned on an as-needed basis The contractor determines their own schedule while meeting established deadlines Travel throughout Lee County is required Independent Contractor Status This position is classified as an independent contractor. The contractor is not considered an employee of Lee County and is not eligible for benefits, including but not limited to health insurance, retirement, paid leave, or unemployment insurance. The County will not withhold taxes. The contractor is responsible for all applicable taxes, insurance, and compliance with federal and state requirements.
