Job Description

Position Overview The Field Data Collection Technician will be responsible for operating a Mobile Retroreflectometer Unit (MRU) vehicle to collect roadway asset data at highway speeds. Technicians will drive and operate the MRU system, ensuring accurate data capture, safe vehicle operation, and consistent equipment performance. This role requires strong attention to detail, technical aptitude, and the ability to travel extensively. Key Responsibilities Operate an MRU field data collection vehicle on designated routes Collect and monitor roadway data using laser optics technology Drive long distances for extended periods while adhering to all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies Monitor MRU and onboard computer system performance during data collection Perform basic troubleshooting of vehicle-mounted and computer-based data capture components Document and communicate downtime, weather delays, and technical issues to the supervisor Provide project status updates as requested Maintain a positive, professional attitude while performing all assigned tasks Qualifications Associate or bachelor's degree preferred but not required High school diploma or GED Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Ability to read and navigate using digital maps Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office and file‑sharing platforms Ability to learn new software quickly and thoroughly Must be able to pass a drug test and background screening GIS/GPS familiarity is a plus, but not required Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with technical equipment Clear, efficient communication skills and a professional demeanor Ability to work independently while following prescribed procedures Essential Job Functions Set up, operate, and monitor field data collection equipment Troubleshoot vehicle systems and data‑capture components as needed Travel as required for periods of 1-2 weeks at a time Employee Benefits Company credit card for expenses during travel (food, lodging, and fuel) Opportunity for advancement into a salaried position with full benefits Compensation Hourly compensation for this role ranges from $23 to $27 Overtime is compensated at one‑and‑a‑half times the standard hourly rate Eligible employees receive regular pay increases as part of our ongoing investment in their success Equal Opportunity Statement Beck Enterprises and Beck & Co Engineering are equal opportunity employers.
