Job Description

Pavement Data Collection Technician The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a forward-thinking person to work within the Central Materials and Pavements Group. As the Pavement Data Collection Technician, you will maintain and operate the Inertial Profiler, Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and Skid testing equipment. You will be responsible for assisting in data interpretation from all four pieces of equipment as well as management of the smoothness verification program. Position Details Location

  • 5/15/2026 Key Responsibilities Maintain and operate the inertial profiler equipment.
Interpret and analyze smoothness data collected with the inertial profiler. Oversee UDOT's smoothness verification program. Maintain and operate the FWD testing equipment. Assist in interpretation of collected FWD data. Maintain and operate the GPR testing equipment. Assist in the interpretation of collected GPR data. Maintain and operate the Skid testing equipment. Assist in interpretation of collected Skid data. Assist with other Central Materials and Pavements testing as needed. What You'll Bring Completed the Transportation Education Program (TEP) training, or NICET Level IV, T3, or M3 training and two years of experience in the construction or materials testing fields. A combination of directly related education and/or experience. Have a valid drivers license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per

(1)(a). Be a Certified Profiler Operator or become certified within 6 months of start date. Become proficient in the operation of the FWD, GPR and Skid testing equipment within 6 months of start date. Obtain other materials testing certifications as directed. Have curiosity and passion for building, preserving, and maintaining pavements. Be able to take the initiative on self-prioritized tasks with little to no direct supervision. This position is eligible for underfill as an Engineering Tech III, promotion to level IV requires one year of experience in the role, Profiler Operator certification, and demonstrated proficiency in operating FWD, GPR, and Skid test equipment.
