Position:
Cross-Trained Back Office Medical Assistant, Front Office Assistant & Insurance Enrollment Specialist Summary:
We are looking to fulfill a comprehensive position for a full-time front and back office medical assistant to assist in with insurance enrollment, verifying insurance eligibility, scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and back office medical duties. Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred. At least 1 year of medical back office and insurance enrollment experience required.
Key Position Responsibilities:
Front Office Duties:
Welcome patients and visitors by greeting them in person or over the telephone; answer or direct inquiries; efficiently schedule appointments; remind patients of upcoming appointments; register and check in patients in a timely manner; prepare necessary documentation for patient visits; notify providers of patient late arrivals; reschedule late-arriving patients when necessary; verify insurance eligibility and benefits; and perform other duties as assigned.
Insurance Enrollment Duties:
Assist with community outreach and provide enrollment assistance for Medi-Cal, CalFresh, Covered California, and other eligible health and social service programs. Educate patients on available benefits, complete enrollment applications, and maintain accurate documentation. Perform other duties as assigned.
Medical Back Office Duties:
Prepare exam rooms and patients for examinations; obtain and document vital signs and patient medical history; assist providers during examinations and treatments; perform vision and hearing screenings, as appropriate; collect and prepare specimens for laboratory testing; administer immunizations and injections in accordance with provider orders and organizational policy; perform point-of-care testing; prepare, clean, and sterilize medical equipment and instruments; perform wound care and dressing changes as directed; coordinate referrals and follow-up care; provide patient education under provider direction; maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record; and perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
Medical front office reception experience Valid Medical Assistant Certificate Experience with patient insurance and eligibility Experience with referrals and authorizations Able and comfortable translating, if bilingual Excellent verbal, telephone and communication skills Experience working with Microsoft Office and possesses strong computer skills Experience with electronic health record systems (EPIC, OCHIN) Can adjust to new environments easily and willing to learn new skills Can manage individual responsibilities with little or no direction Willing to work daily and be present for entire office hours Ability to use good judgment and seek appropriate resources in difficult or stressful situations
