Going strong since 1974, CASE is an educational collaborative agency made up of 11 regional and municipal districts affording member and non-member school districts the opportunity to augment local services by planning, developing and implementing programs for students with special needs. Assistive Technology Specialist (2 days a week/days and hours are negotiable) The Assistive Technology (AT) Specialist supports students with disabilities by evaluating, recommending, and implementing assistive technology tools and services to ensure equitable access to the curriculum and school environment. The AT Specialist collaborates with educators, related service providers, families, and administrators to integrate appropriate technology into the instructional setting in compliance with IDEA and Section 504. This position requires travel to public school districts in the MetroWest Boston area to conduct evaluations and provide AT consultation services to K-12 school-based teams for students with disabilities. Reports to: Director of School Consulting ServicesJob Goal:
To work closely with students with disabilities in an effort to provide them with physical, instructional, and emotional support needed for progress toward IEP goals; to assist the special and regular education staff in implementing IEP goals. Job duties vary due to the diverse nature of the students.Job Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
Essential duties of this position are noted below. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned. Conduct AT evaluations using a team-based approach to determine appropriate tools and strategies to support students' IEP goals and access to the general curriculum. Strong written communication skills, including ability to write professional evaluation reports. Collaborate with IEP/504 teams to recommend AT devices, software, and services, and assist in developing related IEP goals or accommodations. Provide direct and consultative services to students, educators, and families to facilitate the effective use of assistive technology. Train staff, students, and families on the use of AT devices, applications, and tools. Support school-based teams in data collection and progress monitoring of AT effectiveness. Stay current on emerging assistive technologies, research, and trends through professional development and training. Deep understanding of assistive technology tools across domains (communication, mobility, vision, reading/writing support, executive functioning, etc.). Knowledge of IDEA, ADA, and Section 504 requirements related to assistive technology. Ability to evaluate, recommend, and implement AT solutions based on student needs. Strong collaboration, communication, and coaching skills. Expertise with AT software and hardware (e.g., text-to-speech, AAC devices, alternative input devices, screen readers, etc.). Organizational skills for maintaining service logs and student records.Qualifications:
Education:
A minimum of a Masters Degree in related field; Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) credential strongly preferred;Experience:
minimum of 5 years of experience in K-12 public school, collaborative, or private special education school setting;Skills:
Proficiency with Windows/Mac OS, Google Workspace for Education, and mobile device management (MDM); Specialized technology certifications (e.g., Google) preferred.Evaluation:
Performance evaluation conducted annually by Assistant Executive Director or designee.Position Type:
