Job Description
The purpose of the ADRC Specialist position is to provide the general public, but particularly adults who are elderly or disabled, with information and referral to a wide range of community resources. This position helps inform and educate people about their options, assist in connecting them to programs, services and public benefits. This position also determines eligibility for the publicly funded long-term care programs. This position is a part of Green County Human Services in the Aging and Disability Resource Center.
ESSENSTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
including the following: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be considered as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned. Evaluate the call or request. Identify the issue(s) leading to the inquiry, establish rapport with the inquirer, determine the nature of the situation, and evaluate the knowledge and capacities of the inquirer, in order to determine how to best provide assistance. Provide individuals with accurate, objective and useful information. The information provided shall be accurate, objective, and relevant to the individual's expressed need and shall be presented in language and formats that are easy for customers to understand. Information and assistance provided by the ADRC shall not appear to favor or attempt to persuade the individual to choose any particular setting, program, service or provider. Provide information and assistance on a wide variety of topics. Be knowledgeable of the services and programs available in Green County, both public benefits and private pay options. Provide referrals and/or assistance in accessing public and private resources. Determine the needs of the inquirer; evaluate appropriate resources; provide information about services, providers, and organizations capable of meeting the customer's needs; locate alternative resources for customers with under-met or unmet needs; and actively assist the inquirer in accessing needed resources. Provide Follow-up. Staff shall follow up with individuals to whom they have provided information and assistance to determine whether the inquirer's needs were met and whether additional information or assistance is needed. Participate in marketing and outreach activities. Participate in program development activities. Participate in Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement projects and activities. Participate in staff meetings and training activities. Perform other duties as needed or assigned to support the mission of the ADRC. Arrange work schedule as necessary or directed to meet the program and consumer service needs. Represent Green County Human Services and the Aging and Disability Resource Center to the community at large through professional interaction, clinical consultation, public speaking, media presentations, and participation in community advisory groups requested. Comply with applicable federal and state laws, administrative rules, established agency procedures and accepted professional standards. Participate in ongoing training, maintaining contemporary knowledge to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Maintain the confidentiality of client information as required by State and Federal laws and regulations.QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/orEXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university. Equivalent of at least one year of full-time experience in a health or human service field, working with one or more of the client populations served by the ADRC (elderly or adults with physical or intellectual/developmental disabilities). Knowledge regarding the service delivery system, the needs of the recipient group/groups to be served, and the resources available or needing to be developed. Knowledge of personal computers, computer software applications and data imputing experience are a must.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver's license along with access to a reliable, insured motor vehicle.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to interpret and comprehend a variety of documents including policy manuals, memos and letters. Ability to effectively communicate with consumers and their families/guardians, service providers, professional and support staff and governmental personnel. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with clients, supervisor, physicians, other health professionals, the general public, hospital, clinic and school personnel, and department staff both in orally and in writing.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, calculate decimals and percentages. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistic inference.REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of information technology procedures to perform tasks. Ability to use functional reasoning development in performing activities within systems involving diversified work requiring significant exercise of judgment. Ability to use independent judgment to occasionally assist in unstable or risky situations.PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Typical working environment is within a non-smoking temperature-controlled office. Presentations in the community and home visits are required.
