At UConn Health this grant-funded summer student position will collaborate with the research team dedicated to evaluating public policy designed to improve the health and well-being of older adults, people with disabilities and their families. The primary task of this position involves interviewing research participants who receive services through Connecticut Department of Social Services programs and residents of nursing homes across the state of Connecticut and their family members. Interviews are conducted in-person, by telephone, or by video call. Other tasks include recruitment of interview participants, scheduling interviews, data collection and data entry, and use of web-based data collection systems. The position requires working effectively with research team members, state agency staff, community organizations, and research participants to facilitate all aspects of research effort. The applicant must be able to work independently, maintain confidentiality of participants and possess excellent people skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade.
EXAMPLE OF JOB DUTIES
Recruitment of participants for interviews, surveys or other research activities. Telephone and in-person interviews of research participants. Tracking of difficult to find research participants. Data collection and entry. Review data to ensure accuracy and work with team to analyze data. Use of projects' web-based data tracking system. Assist in writing project reports and manuscripts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY
: Must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma and be enrolled in one of the following degree programs - Associate, Bachelor or Master's. Medical Students are encouraged to apply. Training and experience conducting in-person surveys and interviews with older adults or people with physical, mental health and/or intellectual disabilities and their families. Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills. Proven ability to work independently. Willingness to travel statewide to complete in-person interviews. Reliable car for travel to in-person interviews within Connecticut.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to verify current student status in formal accredited program upon hire. Acceptable documentation to include either a letter from academic advisor on letterhead; or a course schedule listing current term of enrollment, name of educational institute and student's name.
SCHEDULE
This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, 8-hour shift between 9:00 am and 8:00 pm. Reliable transportation is needed as travel may be involved in completing in-person interviews.
SALARY:
The hourly rate is between $16.94 - $20.00 and will be based on experience. This position is not eligible for benefits.
