Job Description

Civil Justice, Inc. (CJ) is a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding legal services for low and moderate-income Marylanders facing life-altering legal issues, using innovative solutions that create positive change. Through our in-house programs and our network of solo and small firm attorneys, CJ connects low- and moderate-income Marylanders with free and affordable representation. CJ seeks a part-time staff member whose primary responsibility will be to respond to requests for assistance from Marylanders who need help with a broad range of legal issues. The Intake Specialist will interview applicants for legal services, screening them for CJ's in-house programs and providing appropriate referrals. The intake staff member may also provide support for Civil Justice's in-house programs by performing legal research, interviewing clients, and investigating cases. This is a temporary, part-time position (15-20 hours per week) with an immediate start date. Funding for this position extends through December 31, 2026.
Qualifications:
Training through a certified paralegal program highly preferred; High school diploma or equivalent; Understanding of civil legal services and case types; Interest in access to justice and serving low and moderate-income communities; Strong communication skills, including the ability to speak with clients in a clear, compassionate, and professional manner; Ability to manage confidential information with discretion; Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based platforms; Comfortable working independently in a fully-remote environment; and Spanish or other second-language proficiency is a plus.
