The Law Department is comprised of two sections, the City Attorney's Office, which handles representing the City in civil matters, and the City Prosecutor's Office, which handles the prosecution of misdemeanor crimes committed in Phoenix. The City Attorney's Office is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary to join the litigation team. The Legal Secretary provides highly skilled and detail-oriented legal secretarial and administrative support to senior executives, administrators, or attorneys in the Law Department. Work is performed independently with minimal supervision.Duties include:
Performing a wide variety of complex, confidential, administrative and secretarial tasks. Scheduling meetings. Calendaring court appearances and deadlines. Docketing/calendaring using case management software. E-filing documents with various courts (state and federal). Drafting various legal documents. Reviewing documents for completeness, proper formatting, and typographical errors. Finalizing pleadings for court filings, special actions, and petitions in municipal, state, and federal courts. Conducting electronic research via the internet. Preparing and mailing subpoenas. Processing and monitoring civil legal proceedings/cases.IDEAL CANDIDATE
Knowledge of how to draft various legal documents. Ability to plan and organize workload. Ability to comply with established time constraints. Strong communication and organization skills. Proficiency using electronic calendars such as Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Outlook, and Cisco WebEx. Team player.SALARY Pay Range:
$26.18 to $35.08 per hour.Hiring Range:
$26.18 to $31.82 per hour.Pay Range Explanation:

Please understand that this is pay grade 343. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance. Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase. Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease. Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade. Two years of clerical experience in a legal setting, including training in typing and stenography. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: Five years of civil litigation experience in law firm. Docketing experience using a program and manually docketing dates, maintaining electronic files. eFile in State, Federal and appellate courts.Experience:
Filing documents and briefs in Superior, District, respective appellate courts, Office of Administrative Hearings, and other venues. Processing court filings, special actions, and petitions using e-filing systems in municipal, state, and federal courts. Drafting and formatting legal documents, pleadings and correspondence, producing documents using proper sentence structure, punctuation, grammar, and spelling. Preparing trial and deposition notebooks. Using Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and NetDocs. Rules of Court, Evidence, and Discovery, Federal Privacy Act, Freedom of Information Act, and City ordinances. Legal terminology, principles, precedents, procedures, and research methods. Providing administrative assistance for multiple executives or middle managers. Maintaining confidential client, case, or other records or files. Front desk customer service.RECRUITMENT DATES
