In this role you will be responsible for maintaining the Firm's centralized docketing system by accurately calculating, entering, and monitoring deadlines in accordance with applicable court rules and firm procedures for designated practice areas. This role serves as a critical risk-management function, ensuring deadlines are properly tracked and communicated to support timely and compliant case progression across the Firm. Work is performed through a centralized request system and includes document analysis and the application of standardized, rule-based docketing templates Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions Review and process docket requests submitted by Legal Support team members through the Firm's centralized intake system. Analyze source documents (e.g., pleadings, notices, correspondence) to identify triggering events and determine applicable deadlines. Apply rule-based logic to calculate deadlines in accordance with jurisdiction-specific rules, including Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP), Michigan Court Rules (MCR), and other applicable procedural requirements. Utilize standardized docketing templates to ensure consistency and accuracy across practice areas and jurisdictions. Evaluate template effectiveness and recommend enhancements to the Docket Lead to improve consistency, efficiency, and accuracy in docketing workflows. Communicate with requestors to clarify submissions, resolve discrepancies, and ensure complete and accurate intake information. Serve as a subject matter resource for attorneys and staff on docketing procedures, court rules, and deadline-related inquiries. Contribute to continuous improvement of docketing processes, workflows, and training resources. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Education and Experience Minimum of two years of litigation practice group or docketing experience required Knowledge of Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) and Michigan Court Rules (MCR) and familiarity with various court websites required Advanced knowledge and proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) required Experience with NetDocs, or similar document management software, and BEC Software preferred Associate's degree in a related legal field or business administration preferred Skills, Knowledge, and other Competencies Maintains composure and effectiveness in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; demonstrates resilience and adaptability when priorities shift. Produces consistently high-quality, detail-oriented work with a strong focus on accuracy and risk mitigation. Applies critical thinking and analytical skills to interpret legal documents, identify triggering events, and ensure proper deadline calculation. Communicates clearly and professionally with attorneys, Legal Support team members, and other stakeholders to gather information, clarify requests, and resolve discrepancies. Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple requests and competing deadlines effectively. Exercises sound judgment and accountability in handling sensitive, time-critical information. Collaborates respectfully with team members, participates in coverage planning, and contributes to a supportive, team-oriented environment. Shows initiative in identifying process improvements and enhancing efficiency within docketing workflows and templates. Adapts to new systems, tools, and procedural changes with a willingness to learn and grow within the role. Maintains a high level of professionalism, discretion, and commitment to client service and firm standards.
